One of the worst

My wife and I arrived at reception and booked our car in for parking then tried to book in. The receptionist couldn't find our booking for about 10 mins so not a great start. She gave us our keys to the gatehouse room number 28 and just pointed to where we should walk. We couldn't find it so asked a guy who we assume was a cleaner as just had normal clothes on so couldn't really tell for sure if he was staff but he told us where the room was. We walked in the room checked it and the bathroom and walked straight back to reception. By the look on the guys face I knew he knew what was coming and I continued to ask why the hell they were even booking this disgusting room out, wallpaper hanging off , stains on carpets , windows rotten, bathroom rotten ,paint peeling off walls , shower mouldy and mould all over floor and toilet. After a 2 hour drive we were disgusted. He offered to show us another room upstairs but this had filthy carpets grubby bathroom and under the radiators rotten wood on the floor where it has been leaking for sometime. It has taken me 2 days to contact the manager as they wouldn't refund us straight away even though we had only paid 10 minutes before!! It's been 1 week today and the refund still hasn't showed in my account. So if you are happy sleeping in run down mouldy rooms book here. We left after only being there approximately 20 mins. This hotel is in desperate need of renovation and the owners should be ashamed of themselves. Top tip if your not happy see another room before you leave if you don't they won't refund you.

A real jem

We booked Stoke Place via Groupon and had a truly wonderful stay which was fantastic value for money. The building is beautiful; elegant and interesting; the grounds are lovely and the hotel staff are attentive, kind and friendly. The room was very clean and comfortable (we were up on the third floor with lovely views across the lawns and the lake. There are a few plumbing noises and sloping floorboards but that’s what you’d expect in an old building The hotel is well set back from the road behind high brick walls and was no traffic noise - and surprisingly none from planes either although you do see aircraft flying fault low across the sky - it’s not far from Heathrow. We stayed two nights and were very pleasantly surprised that dinner and breakfast was included on both evenings/mornings The food is really very good and the breakfast was hearty and generous - cooked exactly how it was requested. We made use of the bicycle loan and enjoyed exploring the area I’d recommend this beautiful hotel to anyone We thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you

Booked a quiet get a way for my partner’s 50th, very pleased. We were well looked after by the staff. Have to mention Sylvester at the Juniper Bar, he made us feel extra special. The weather was lovely so we explored the grounds, which were well kept. We’ll definitely visit again, see what it’s like in summer.

parking charge received with no signs warning of this!

Had a lovely afternoon tea at the restaurant, the waitress was attentive and informative. There could be a greater selection of tea available, nonetheless, what I had was lovely. Went for a walk on the grounds afternoon which was very pleasant. However, I've given 2 stars as I just received a parking ticket for parking on the grounds! There were no signs anywhere to say I had to pay for parking. When I entered the hotel, there was no one in reception to inform me of parking charges - I found my way to the restaurant myself and there again, nobody informed me of any parking charges. I'm really upset!
