Shangri-La The Marina, Cairns

We booked 2 deluxe double rooms with mountain view, the check in was easy, staff were friendly and helpful. The walk to the room was super far, hallway narrow and dated, the room was recently renovated clean, quiet and comfortable. The air con was nice and cool. The chairs on the balcony were comfortable to sit and read. The Nespresso coffee machine hit the spot. The pool area was ok, too many screaming kids when we were there, they have a pool bar near the pool which was good. Restaurants and bars close by.

My wife and I and I go to this resort at least 2x per year. Their service is the best anywhere. While the accommodation is not new it is so worth the deals they offer. When you get a view of the harbour it’s so tranquil. So nice to wake close to the hr our able to watch the tours startup and leave in their respective boats. We have decided to make this our second home. The management at this resort absolutely make sure your stay is everything you desire.

I really enjoyed my stay here. The hotel is in an excellent location right on the marina, easy walking access to everything - tours, shopping, restaurants. The service was great. The front desk staff who checked me in (I think his name was Jonathan?) could not have been nicer which was very welcomed after a long day of traveling. The breakfast was good and had enough variety so you don’t get board with the options. Also try the hotel’s restaurant The Backyard for dinner. It was the best meal I ate in Cairns

We loved the Shangri La Cairns and booked it thru the Chase Sapphire Reserve card travel portal. We got a $250. credit on our 3 night stay. The location is great overlooking the marina and walking distance to everything in Cairns. At check in we were upgraded to a view room, but asked Ellen about a further upgrade and were offered a Horizon Club Room which was beautiful and we accepted. Our room rate included breakfast and $100. resort credit and we enjoyed dinner at The Backyard. The food was good and we enjoyed it in our room which watching the Australian Open. The breakfast buffet was great and nice way to start the day. All the usual fare and egg station. The view is nice too from the restaurant. The staff is friendly and very helpful. We did not hear any noise in our 2nd floor room and enjoyed walking around town and along the water. The weather was gorgeous and since there is no beach we were at the pool everyday. It was lovely and we enjoyed relaxing. The highlight was the Horizon Lounge. The evening food was excellent and rotated everyday. The staff were so friendly and we enjoyed talking to them. The lounge is really worth it, as drinks are included and there is breakfast and all day beverages and snacks (pastries and fruit). The evening canapés are enough for dinner. I highly recommend this hotel for your stay in Cairns. Don't forget to check out Rusty's Market on the weekend for produce and food stalls.

We stayed at the Shangri La Cairns for a week over Christmas and could not speak more highly of it! The property really made our tip I believe and look forward to returning. The joy started before our stay as I had a complimentary upgrade the I got through as a Shangri La members benefit that was set to expire in Feb so booked the trip up and so happy we did. Check in process was warm and smooth; Ellen (I believe was her name) checked us in and was so lovely to deal with. I will say the 100 AUD per night bond was steep, but they charge the same in Sydney. The lobby was pleasant and airy too. The real attraction was the room; we stayed in a Horizon Club room which was stunning. Beautiful views all across the marina and onto the mountains in the distance. The room itself was massive with a L shaped couch and a massive balcony. The bed was as I expect from a Shangri La, very comfortable with great pillows. The bathroom was spacious and had a glass wall which I loved as it allowed for plenty of natural light. Separate shower and toilet which I wish all hotels would do! A comment on all Shangri La properties but I love the attention to detail, everything is branded which adds to the premium feel. One negative is there are not enough power sockets in the room, which means you couldn't charge your phone next to the bed. 4 water bottles were in the room and replaced daily, another thing I wish other brands would learn from Shangri La. Horizon Club was also a real positive, it had a calm atmosphere and very friendly staff. We particularly enjoyed dealing with the French lady who's name I cannot remember unfortunately. Was very impressed with the food selection. Breakfast was almost identical to what they serve at the main buffet (which you also have access to too) and evening canapes you could easily eat as dinner. Great variety all with seafood/Asian influence which we liked. The lounge also had all day drinks and pastries which were great as you could swing in at any point and get a soft drink or as we did escape the heat for a bit with a cup of tea/coffee! The pool was good, never to crowded and excellent cocktails! One note was the loungers which were so comfortable - we spent nearly the whole trip just lounging by the pool! The staff as always, were excellent. Food and drink was cheap by the pool which I wasn't expecting! Location is fabulous, right on the marina for day trips and the esplanade right on the other side. It is also positioned in such a way where you are out of the business of the town centre which makes it feel calm. So many excellent restaraunts. I would especially recommend Prawn Star and Salt House to anyone visiting. Overall, it was an excellent stay and I have no real complaints. Can't wait to stay again.
