5-star for location 5 star for concierge services 5 star for Mr. Tussar at reception 1- star for reservations department not catching the discrepancy in bookings This is a beautiful, classic hotel built in 1914 and is well located just a block away from the 8th Street pedestrian shopping area. I must admit I have a love/hate relationship with this hotel as I was in an unusual situation that took time to be resolved. My first night was with a group (Standard room) and the second night was on my own account and I had booked a King room. I think the receptionist should have mentioned that the discrepancy during the first check-in as the reservations were linked. I should have been allowed to pay the difference for the first night so I wouldn’t have to change rooms. I was given room 910 - a very small Queen room. In its defense it has a view of Calgary Tower. Thank goodness the very capable Mr.Tussar works at reception , When I returned from my errands the next day, I took my reservation receipt showing I booked a King Room, but the first receptionist (who had been very apologetic, but did nothing to help) was no longer there. Mr. Tussar took it all in, explained what probably happened and offered to let me change rooms (I said no as I was tired) then offered to send me a cheese and fruit tray. He later called and again asked if I wanted to change rooms. I didn’t as I was in the midst of packing for an early morning departure. So if you find yourself in the same situation, double check both your reservations and offer to pay the up-charge so you won’t need to change rooms, or be downgraded for your second night. I would stay at this hotel again but would be more careful about checking my reservations.

The Gold floor staff were amazing. We can’t thank them enough for their support. I had to stay in Calgary after minor back surgery and they were there to help me and my wife out every time we needed something. Genuine people!! Thank you for all the ice packs!

Beautiful hotel with gorgeous interiors. Just popped in for breakfast on our first morning in Calgary. Super friendly staff .. but expect to pay a premium for the food & drinks. Shame there was no outlook but I guess you should expect that from a city hotel.

The room was exceptionally clean and well appointed. The welcome and check out experience were both well handled. The lobby is elegant and inviting. The lounge area was in keeping with the overall upscale atmosphere. I have stayed there before and will definitely stay there again when my travels take me to Calgary.
