Reviews for Rio Perdido

Pura Vida!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

Rio Perdido is a uniquely memorable place. Nestled in the jungle in luxurious tree houses, it’s low-key luxury, Costa Rican style. For our four-night girls trip/reunion, it was the perfect mix of wellness, outdoor adventure, and reconnecting. The thermal river, mineral pools, and volcanic mud were our daily ritual. Whether observing monkeys by the pool bar, or indulging in spa treatments - the whole vibe was relaxing (and temperatures quite warm!). We appreciated the mindful activities of yoga, guided hikes, and meditation. And the adventurous white-water rafting trip only 30 minutes away. Every day we looked forward to delicious, fresh, and locally-inspired cuisine and cocktails. Yet amongst all these wonderful gifts, it is the staff that truly shines. Warm, attentive, and with a genuine care for their guests – Rio Perdido is a very special place. Thank you, Gabriel and the Rio Perdido Team! We hope to return soon. Pura Vida!

A most memorable stay - we'll be back!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

This was our first visit to Costa Rica and as the entire country is open for tourism, the challenge for us was to try and plan a balanced relaxing vacation without having to criss-cross the entire county to include everything we wanted to do and see. Rio Perdido allowed us to manage all our interests on one property without spending our time on the road traveling to and from many destinations. We checked in to Rio Perdido for a 5 day stay in what can be best described as the ultimate blend between a modern eco-conscientious resort with a bountiful array of onsite athletic activities and spa services, in a natural secluded setting that felt like it was all to ourselves (even when fully booked). The most incredible aspect of the property was the ability to experience two micro climates immediately adjacent to each other - the flora & fauna of the dry forest and the lush gorge of the thermal river 200 ft. below with a vastly different mix. As my wife and I have a passion for seeking out holiday destinations that offer a sense of adventure mixed with quality accommodations, Rio Perdido ticked off all the boxes when it came to an exquisite comfort and design experience. From their expansive open air dining room & lounge area with its constant breeze flowing through the space, to the uniquely refined bungalows either nestled in the forest or perched near the edge of the river gorge; everything was in perfect harmony with nature in this exclusive setting. The attention to design details was one of working beautiful natural materials and finishes with understated luxury. None of this could have been delivered so seamlessly if it wasn't for all the staff that made it happen. Friendly, attentive and always willing to help, there's a resounding pride at the core of this team that genuinely wants to showcase their country and this resort in the best possible light. We will definitely be back for another visit and soak up more of the goodness.

Special place

We absolutely loved this resort. We stayed there for 5 nights with our child, and we did not get bored! We did the Canyon Adventure, mountain biking, free hike, free yoga, spa massages and pedicures, coffee making class and loved the thermal rivers and pools. Nothing ever felt crowded, and it was just such a peaceful experience. The food was exceptional and we didn't get tired of the menu, as were all of the delicious drinks. The thing that made the stay even more special was the staff. They are so friendly and want to make your visit that much more special. We stayed in the Central Bungalow with the 2 king beds and there was plenty of room. We love the floor-to-ceiling windows and the patio, although it was so hot in March we didn't get to enjoy it as much as we wanted. It was just such a different experience than anything else we had done before and so special. We would definitely come back! It is also only an hour to Liberia airport, so you don't spend too long in the car to get there!

Amazing Experience a Must Stay!

My husband and I had a wonderful time at Rio Perdido! We highly recommend staying here and booking all the amazing activities that the hotel has to offer. The hotel is very charming with such fantastic staff who are all hired locally. You can tell the entire staff loves working at Rio Perdido and they take pride in their jobs. They truly want you to have the best time! We stayed for 4 nights in the East Bungalow rooms which were modern and had beautiful views of the dry forest. We took advantage of all the hotel had to offer by booking two off-property hikes, and on-property we did the hikes, yoga, and Ziplining which was incredible! Breakfast was included with our stay and the food was great. We really enjoyed the fresh fruit and juices that we were given every morning. The hotel is extremely accommodating with their food choices and they have a large menu to choose from for breakfast & dinner. The restaurant is beautiful overlooking the forest and you will see lots of Monkeys! Overall, we had a fantastic experience and would definitely recommend any of our friends to stay here and hopefully one day we can come back! Just wanted to take a moment to shout out the amazing staff, Monica for booking all of our adventures you we're amazing! Allen, Eddy, Cesar, Norman, Jonathan, and all the waiters & bartenders you were so sweet and made the best drinks & food all week long! The entire Ziplining adventure team & photographer we had the absolute best experience you made the adventure so fun and memorable for us!

Good for the scenery and to see the dry forest area of Costa Rica

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

My wife and I were underwhelmed and disappointed with the hotel but did love the canyon and scenery. For the most part the staff was friendly but the manager (or perhaps concierge) never did get a hold of us to see what we needed as was promised at check in. We stayed in a center bungalow and neither of us liked it at all. It's super dark in the room, the bed is hard, and there's no counter space. The bathroom is dark and the mirror is quite a bit away from the sink so it made it hard to shave. We did love the outdoor shower and saw monkeys right outside our bungalow. They only have one restaurant, which has the same menu for lunch and dinner every day, and there aren't any local restaurants nearby so this wasn't ideal. I'm not sure how families with kids do it since eventually you get tired of the same menu. The pools were okay but get loud when the kids are there. I loved the deep tissue massage I had (ask for Francini - she's amazing) and ziplining in their canyon was one of the highlights of our trip to Costa Rica so I'd highly recommend doing it. We had stayed for 3 nights in the La Fortuna area (absolutely loved our resort there) and 2 nights at Rio Perdido and were wishing we'd just stayed in La Fortuna for the entire trip.
