OK but not a Dream

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 6 hours ago

The Resort is "OK" but unfortunately not a Dream. Maybe it was 20 years ago. But now the rooms are just old. The entrance/lobby has been renovated and looks nice and fresh. Rooms, elevators and everything besides the Lobby however is old and used. Rooms are clean but nothing special. Aircondition is loud. Food selection is good - quality is just OK - so are the drinks. Some parts (pools; beach chairs and areas near elevator and rooms should be cleaner. There is often used glasses and rubbish around. I would recommend to spend 100-150 USD more and stay at Hyatt Zilara or Iberostar. Its well spent money. For a price of 300 USD + I expected more at Dreams Sands. Beach is nice - if no seagrass is around (which can be smelly) Book on the cheapest booking page is recommended. It is a property of World of Hyatt. However, no additional status benefit is given for guests with status. So why book directly if other websites are cheaper?

Hotel staff pee’d on our luggage and clothes

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

The hotel rooms were lacklustre for the “preferred club” rooms. The food was otherwise good but hotel staff in the restaurants (with the exception of El Patio) there was a tendency for rudeness. Most importantly during my stay hotel staff urinated in my luggage and on my clothes, as well as urinating on the belongings of my two friends whom I shared a room with. Some individuals from America that we met on our trip also had a rather extreme experience with hotel staff with items stolen out of their room and passports burnt (for whatever reason). If not for these experiences it might have otherwise been a pleasant holiday, but it was utterly and totally soiled by this disgusting display. Would not recommend staying here.

Pluses and minuses

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

It's not a bad resort, but don't get hungry there around 5:00pm. Employees are somewhat confused about what restaurants are open around that time and how you have to be dressed for that restaurant. It turns out that Olio restaurant is the only one open around that time and chances are they would be almost out of food. Plus hostesses and waiters there would be in no rush to give you that hotdog. It could take you around 30 minutes to get it.

Dreams Sands Cancun getaway

We had a wonderful time at Dreams Sands! The resort had been renovated recently and was very nice! We were upgraded to a balcony room and were impressed with the beautiful views! The room was a bit small for a Preferred Club room, but was adequate for our needs. The beach was amazing! We spent time at the beach every day during our stay. The pools were nice too and we especially enjoyed the Preferred Club pool. The food was very good at all restaurants. We especially enjoyed the Teppanyaki table at the Himitzu. We had a wonderful romantic private wine cellar dinner at the Gaucho grill. Our server was Eliud and he was excellent! The manager Bruno gave us extra special attention for our special birthday evening remembering our daughter Kimberly. Other notable staff: Pascal- server at el Patio for breakfast Beach drink service _ Guadalupe Beach chair service - Alex. Alex was so fun as we shared a moment on Instagram. Somellier- Gustavo and Federico VIP bar- Vanessa El Patio dinner- Emilio Member service update at Breathless - Adriana Preferred pool service - Manuela Fusion dinner - Jorge Entertainment team- Faustino, Angelo, Angie, Sadie, Farid El Patio- breakfast, David Porto Fino - Julio Lobby bar- Omar Preferred lounge- Erick, Miguel The crew at the Coco Café were very nice as we got our daily lattes. There were many more that I failed to write down their names. The management team should be very proud of their excellent staff! I highly recommend Dreams Sands as an enjoyable resort in Cancun.

The resort is wonderful. Excellent location. Close to downtown, the flea market and Isla Mujeres. The ferry is within walking distance to the Hotel. The hotel was very clean. The staff was amazing! They were super friendly and made me feel so at home. Especially the two servers in the restaurant one was Manuel. They brought me Horchata from home because the resort didn't have any. They felt like family to me. The food was good. The buffet offered many selections and I got to try some stuff I never had before and liked it! The steak in the restaurant was different than at home. It wasn't as good, but we preferred the Mexican food anyway! The rooms were good, but not great. They were clean and had a great view but there was nowhere to put your clothes. No drawers. If you pack a lot of stuff like I do, then plan on keeping a lot of things in your suitcase. The A/C broke in our room, so they had to move us to another room which was bigger and did have 1 set of drawers that I used. The beach.... oh, the beach! The beach sand was like powder and so soft. The water was calm, and you could float all day. Very nice. I would love to go back there again.
