Great view with bad services

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

With various reviews I read before the visit, I went in with the understanding/acknowledgement that the property may not have nice rooms, etc -- this turns out to be really true. However, what I didn't expect was the service I received. This property is situated in a very nice region and I had a room with ocean views. Unfortunately, other than this, I don't have anything great to say about the hotel. The service from the reception, etc are all making me feel that I am not welcomed there. I don't know how this hotel can be a Cat 6 hotel in the Hyatt family. I am ok with the hotel being outdated, but I am not ok with the service being so BAD. I don't have anything good to say about the customer facing services that I received. For example, there were no welcome email from the hotel before the stay. Then when I asked for 1 hour earlier check-in @3pm instead of the regular check-in time of 4pm, no response at all. When I asked for late check-out since I am a Hyatt globalist over the telephone with tons of static sounds, the answer I got back is "We don't offer that" -- there's no apologetic tone in the response... Am I asking for too much?! The room is clean, I will give that.

Pretty good, but not amazing

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

Amazing views!! Super quiet and open. Pretty good service. They always seemed a bit short staffed. For example had to wait 10-15 minutes after being sat to order breakfast. Room was large and comfortable. It also smelt a bit like sterile cleaning fluid. Room was also a bit run down. Details were worn, old, and a bit damaged. Everything worked, but also felt dated. For example the sliding doors to the balcony did not open smoothly and made a grinding metal sound. Also did not close smoothly. Lots of little details like that. It does have a nice rustic vibe. Generally older clientele, expect to see most folks over 50. Food was okay: berries were not super fresh, crab was not super fresh. However, it was all prepared well. Drinks were also okay, well made, but not amazing.

Management should be addressed

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Poor management with a nice staff doing their best. Never had an excuse similar in all our travels to over 40 countries. Cleaning was an issue and poor communication when questions were asked to the management who could not even respond to issues. Certainly a beautiful location that could have been a great vacation.

Poor management team with a quality organization.

we were guests at Hyatt Highlands during a power outage due to weather which we understand, however we had no communications from the general manager about what to expect and we had no power for several days. To make matters worse they have no generators for guest rooms so you were in the dark most of the day. We can get no help from the manager for records to supply for our insurance claims for travel interruption. As a lifetime Globalist with Hyatt in all my years I have never had such a terrible experience as we did at Highlands, including all Hyatts brands world wide. Rooms were not cleaned and no service was even provided. It was extremely unsafe to be at this location with mud slides and no electricity. Our visit was poorly handled by the management and not what one would expect at a Hyatt location. Such a beautiful location that is so poorly managed, a manger who lacks communication skills and does not have the courtesy to return phone calls.

Third Time Out

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

Even after my third visit, I remain astonished by this property's location and staff, which continually elevate my experience. The exquisite suites offer breathtaking views of Point Lobos, setting a serene and picturesque backdrop for my stay. The majority of the staff, especially Jessica at check-in, are consistently remarkable in their hospitality and attentiveness. However, one staff member at check-in seemed detached, responding indifferently to my request for an early check-in—a service I understood was unlikely due to the property's timeshare nature. His lackluster response and failure to follow up with a promised text was a minor blemish in an otherwise flawless service experience. The townhouse suite I stayed in this time, comparable to the coveted Point Lobos Suite, was enhanced by a fully-equipped kitchen adorned with elegant Sant’ Andrea dinnerware, adding a touch of luxury and convenience to my stay. Despite the pool's closure, it did not detract from my experience, as swimming wasn't on my agenda. In summary, my third visit reaffirmed the exceptional nature of this property, with its luxurious amenities and generally commendable service. I am enthusiastically looking forward to my next visit.
