The Dewberry, part of the LVX collection of Preferred Hotels & Resorts, is a posh boutique hotel offering old world charm juxtaposed with a distinctive modern edge. The rooms, sophisticated and ageless, take inspiration from mid-century decor and the low country’s genteel roots. Suites and deluxe rooms are decked out with copper sconces, gold-plated mirrors and floor-to-ceiling windows for extensive city views. The hotel’s French brassiere, Henrietta’s, serves exquisite breakfast, lunch and dinner daily.

Recently stayed at the Dewberry while visiting Charleston for several days and the hotel and staff was exceptional. From the valet to front desk and housekeeping, everyone was superb. The hotel is well situated to the restaurants and shops on King Street and most sites was easily walkable. The hotel has in house Volvos that the valets will take you throughout the downtown, which is a great perk, The hotel breakfast was wonderful and they have complimentary coffee and tea in the lobby. The entire staff was excellent and even the bartenders and every waitress will ask you if you have a food allergy, which I thought was a nice attention to detail. Mary, our waitress knew our breakfast order after the first day and believe me she was super busy. The Citrus Club, roof top bar,has great views and is a pleasant place to relax after a day of touring. If you are driving ,the parking and valet is fast and efficient. Our whole stay was great from check in to check out and I personally wouldn’t stay anywhere else in downtown Charleston.

The Good - check in was quick and easy. Oddly they never offered to help with bags. Location is superb, basically a block off King. The Spa is terrific. The Bad - hotel is an old federal building built in 1964. The exterior still reflects that and the interior is cold and unwelcoming. This hotel has an identity crisis. The downstairs bar is very lively and loud. The rooftop bar is a party and brings in crowds of people very late. The Ugly - the rooms are just awful. The beds are incredibly soft. The manager actually had to send someone to buy a mattress topper, my back wouldn’t have survived 4 nights. The shower in our first room didn’t drain. The shower was not level and water ponded on one side permanently, because of this constant moisture mold and orange ick were present. They did move our room. The phone in neither room worked correctly, the phone in 2nd room didn’t work at all. The TV only worked on some channels in both rooms. It would have been nice to have TNT for the NBA playoffs. It’s also very odd that for $900 a night there’s no turndown service. The manager was accommodating and did move us. He didn’t offer anything but saying he was sorry - no discount, flowers, or bottle of cheap champagne. We are well traveled. I would recommend staying elsewhere. If you want a 5 star experience in Charleston go to The Bennett.

From our point of view, from the location and size of the rooms, the best hotel in Charleston. The rooms are very clean, as is the bathroom. Very friendly staff, especially concierge and parking service. Despite demand, there was no turn down service. The citrus bar on the roof top offers a very great view and an excellent drink and food service. The main restaurant on the ground floor is rather not inviting. The hotel offer a shuttle service into the town‘s nearer area on first come first serve basis.

The Dewberry, as always, treated us with the most courteous staff. Very prompt, very helpful, and overall very enjoyable. From the moment we arrived with Valet, and until we departed with Valet; it was a very remarkable experience. They truly go above and beyond to make sure you are taken care of.

Location, location, location! Not only is the Dewberry's location ideal for walking all around Charleston, its staff and amenities are outstanding. As a remodeled Federal building, the mid-century modern decor is absolutely beautiful and charming. Our driver Chricci was a wealth of information about the area since it was our first visit. Laura at the front desk was friendly, courteous, and welcoming. Lauren at the concierge desk was very helpful. Special kudos to Kevy and Lauren in the Living Room. Daily breakfast was delicious with excellent service. After we purchased local produce one morning at the nearby farmer's market, Kevy took our purchase back to the kitchen and presented us with a delicious and beautiful dish that was freshly-prepared from it. Special hotel and experience!
