My husband and I booked Hotel Emeline where we have stayed on numerous occasions, this time, because we had doctors’ visits at MUSC. We stay there in large part because of the great on-site restaurant, easy parking (my husband has back problems), and comfortable suites. We were to check in at 4:00PM on 3/4, but at 3:25PM, when I was in a doctor’s appointment, I received a message that Hotel Emeline was having HVAC problems and would have to cancel my reservation and move me to a “sister” property “at the same rate. (Which was $504 plus taxes, etc).” Shocked that they were cancelling at the last minute, I called after I got out of my appointment, and was told (1) I would still have a suite at Hotel Ryder, (2) the suite would be comparable to what I had booked; (3) there would be parking. They also insisted the price for my room would be the same. They sent me a Hotel Emeline cancellation but not a Hotel Ryder confirmation. I spent the next hour trying to find/park at Hotel Ryder. When I got to the desk at Hotel Ryder, after leaving my car on Meeting Street with flashers on because there was no parking the clerk told me they had no suites. When I assured Hotel Emeline their managers had not showed up to help at the “sister” property as assured, and we couldn’t park, they agreed to , they did move us back to Hotel Emeline. We got a suite with 2 d double beds instead of 1, but no upgrade, yet still were charged for one. Hopefully this was just a fluke.

Let me start with this. I gave the hotel plenty of time to make up what they did to me, and they still have not fully refunded charges to me that they cannot explain. The hotel itself is pretty in the lobby. The location is excellent but thats the best part of the hotel. The rooms are pretty basic. I had the "socialite suite" with two king beds and a sitting area. The bed was fine, but there was no bottled water in the rooms. they have drink stations outside the elevator to provide coffee and water, but the water was out of order and never worked. This immediately downgrades this hotel for me before all other problems that I had. To be considered a 4 star + hotel, I expect bottled water in my room. Next- the hotel bar overcharged me for drinks, which I paid and didn't say anything about. The food at the hotel restaurant was so bad that I regret eating there. I had a hotel credit through my CC rewards that provided a $100 credit at the bar and $60 at the restaurant for breakfast. The hotel proceeded to charge me $215 on top of this without explanation. To top everything off, the valet removed my phone from my car without notifying me whatsoever. They assumed I left my phone (I have two phones) and then did not even notify me that they removed it and I found out when I got home and it was missing. I paid to have the phone overnighted to me and it was not even dropped with fedex until 2 days later. I asked for a refund of the valet and the shipping, which they gave to me, however when I inquired about the additional charges they said they would refund these and I have not been fully refunded (I am still owed about $70). I have been so upset about the way this hotel handled this situation that I refuse to call back and further argue with them. This is simply unacceptable. I will not be returning and I cannot recommend this hotel to anyone.

We had a wonderful time at the Emeline! Our check in was made easy by Nicole and Ashley. The suite we were in was beautiful and comfortable. We appreciated the stay!

My dog and I come into Clerks almost every morning and it’s honestly our favorite part of the day. All the baristas are great, but Tyler and Frannie make it such a welcoming, happy place to start my morning. Their energy really does make a difference. I love how cozy it feels in here, and the seasonal specials are always 10/10. A slow 30 minutes lounging at Clerks with my latte genuinely sets the tone for my whole day. So grateful to have this spot as our daily ritual!

Daniel our waiter was honestly the best waiter I’ve had!! He was very polite and genuine but also entertaining! He worked with our large group and made our experience what it was!! 10/10 because of Daniel!
