Excellent luxury hotel experience! The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, as well as approachable for any of our questions or just casual conversation. The hotel was beautifully decorated and the beds were extremely comfortable. We had breakfast in the dining room and the service was like you were a guest in their own home. The location was perfect and walkable to anywhere in the downtown area. We will definitely stay in this hotel again when we return to Charleston.

What a delightful stay, everyone was warm friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the restaurant and the bar. Our room was beautiful, comfy and had plenty pf room to spread out. All of the employees treated you like you were special and important! Kindness matters and they nailed it.

I am providing an objective account of my stay, marked by significant safety risks and a complete lack of professional communication. 1. Safety Hazard & Negligence (Elevator): On my first day, I was trapped in the elevator. Staff dismissed this as a "frequent occurrence." Due to this blatant disregard for guest safety, I was forced to use the stairs for the remainder of my stay. This is unacceptable for a luxury establishment. 2. Complete Communication Breakdown: My reservation included a mandatory room move/upgrade for the final night. Despite this, I received zero information regarding the logistics during check-in, the following day, or even the morning of the move. The hotel failed to provide any instructions or timeline for this transition. 3. Unprofessional Execution & Deceptive "Upgrade": Without any prior notice, the hotel called me at 12:37 PM while I was out, demanding an immediate room change. This forced me to interrupt my afternoon to return to the hotel. To make matters worse, the "upgraded" room was significantly smaller than the original and lacked a bathtub. Substituting a smaller, less-equipped room and labeling it an "upgrade" is deceptive. 4. Facility Maintenance: My initial room had a persistent, unpleasant odor. The infrastructure suggests neglect rather than historical preservation. 5. Dining (Peninsula Grill): While the service was professional, the culinary execution was underwhelming and did not meet the reputation of the establishment. Conclusion: This property prioritizes its image over basic safety, transparent communication, and guest comfort. I cannot recommend staying here until these systemic issues are addressed.

This has become my favorite hotel in Charleston, and every visit reminds me why. From the moment you arrive, the staff is consistently kind, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. They have a way of making you feel less like a guest and more like you’ve come home. The décor strikes the perfect balance — elegant yet comfortable, warm and inviting without feeling overdone. It’s the kind of place where you can truly relax and settle in while still enjoying the charm and beauty Charleston is known for. During this most recent stay, the cost was honestly astronomical — I’m assuming due to Valentine’s Day and SEWE — and that was the only downside to an otherwise wonderful visit. Even so, the hospitality and overall experience continue to make this a place I love returning to, and it’s still the first hotel I recommend when friends ask where to stay in Charleston.

Love, love, love Peninsula Grill and Planters Inn—Charleston's very best!

Our visit to the Planters Inn last week was superb, as always. Thanks, Steve Boyd, for taking such good care of us when we arrived so early in the morning. Thanks, too, to everyone at the inn for making us feel at home. We're already looking forward to our next visit!
