Anniversary reTreat - 5 Star

I booked Ellenborough Park Hotel for our wedding anniversary. We weren’t disappointed. The grounds are stunning and beautifully kept. We arrived and the hotel were hosting a Ferrari event which meant we were surrounding by beautiful sports cars. They even had the red carpet out (I’ll take it that it was rolled out for us ;-)). We were pleasantly surprised that the hotel has upgraded our room to a junior suite - we’d booked the romantic retreat package so to have champagne and chocolate in such a grand room was lovely. The en-suite was spotless and well looked after. We had dinner in the restaurant and again were not disappointed by the service (thank you Angelos) nor the food; I’m a vegetarian and they catered well for me. Breakfast was tasty. The only down side was waiting for the coffee. There was one lady bringing the hot drinks from the other side of the dining area which meant you were waiting a while. We’d booked a spa treatment and I must say it was an amazing massage. My husband enjoyed his too. Downside - the spa area (jacuzzi, steam room) and changing rooms are small. One shower, one loo, one hair dyer and electric socket. They could do with at least one more. Otherwise, we had an amazing stay.

Spa/restaurant

We booked a spa package for my 50th birthday. Spa was ok the private garden retreat was very nice. Outside pool was nice but not enough sun loungers for everyone. Also took over 30 mins to get our drinks we had ordered only after asking another member of staff for them. After we finished in the garden retreat we popped by into the spa reception to ask if we just go to the restaurant in our gowns. We were told no you need to get changed now before you can go up to the restaurant. Be aware that in the changing room there is only 1 shower and 1 cubical to get changed in so if there’s no than one of you, you will be hanging around to get changed. We had only 25 mins for two of us to get showered and dressed with only 1 shower. Changing rooms to small for two or more people. Then we arrived 10 mins late for our afternoon tea, to be meet with rude staff. I said my name and that we had a booking, he looked at his watch and went your late in a arrogant tone of voice without even looking at us just continued to look at his computer screen. Then He pointed sit over there on that table. We asked if we could sit outside to be told No your table is there? We sat down ordered our afternoon tea. The guy who brought out the afternoon tea was polite and friendly. Then the miserable one return and then a guy in a blue suit take it was the manager came in and spoke to him, while glaring at us for still being in there eating our afternoon tea, this make us feel even more uncomfortable and like we were of an inconvenience instead of being there to enjoy ourselves as it was meant to of been a celebration. With all the glaring and pointing and looking we decided to ask for a box to take our afternoon tea away with us. We leave straight away and felt deflated with the service we had just received from a so say 5* hotel. You don’t pay good money to be treated this way. Was the 1st and last time here. Paid nearly £400 for 3 hours 15 mins in the spa i don’t call that an afternoon. Poor service, some rude staff.
