Chengdu is a city unlike any other; brimming with history, it is home to some of the world's most enthralling attractions, including the majestic Giant Panda sanctuaries. Tucked within the city centre, The Ritz-Carlton, Chengdu has the proud distinction of being one of the very first luxury hotels in the Sichuan capital. Guests are welcomed with resplendent decor, contemporary amenities and an attentive staff that anticipates every need.

We stayed as a family in two rooms. The rooms are spacious, modern, beautifully decorated, and very clean and well maintained. The hotel is well located and staff is generally helpful. Shoutout to customer service manager Bruce, who helped address minor confusion at check-in (which was handled satisfactorily). Note that the Sichuanese restaurant is exceptional - both the food and the service (thank you Carol for helping us navigate the menu and organizing a delightful evening). I generally expect a lot from a hotel of this caliber, and between the quality stay and the fantastic dining experience, I would say the Ritz exceeded expectations.

After an exceptional stay at Ritz-Carlton Xi’an, we changed our original plans at another hotel and decided to continue the Ritz-Carlton experience at Chengdu. Francis Kuah, the manager in Xi’an, kindly coordinated everything with Bruce, the manager in Chengdu, making the transition seamless. From the moment we arrived, the reception floor was stunning, and every staff member we encountered greeted my family with genuine warmth. Bruce personally welcomed us, ensured our check-in was effortless, and made himself available throughout our stay to assist with anything we needed. Everything from the hotel’s prime location and beautifully appointed room to the outstanding service from every staff member and the delicious breakfast was truly 10/10! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and a heartfelt thank you goes to Bruce and the entire team for making our time in Chengdu so memorable.

My recent stay was made unforgettable thanks to the outstanding service from Guest Relations Cherry. From check-in to checkout, she went above and beyond—remembering my preferences, offering helpful local tips, and ensuring every need was met with a warm smile. Her attentiveness truly made me feel valued. The hotel’s dining experience was equally impressive. Each meal at the restaurant was a delight, with fresh, flavorful dishes that showcased delicious culinary skills. The waitstaff was attentive, knowledgeable about the menu, and quick to assist, enhancing the overall dining pleasure. From Cherry’s exceptional hospitality to the top-notch food and service, this hotel sets a high standard. Highly recommended for anyone seeking comfort and excellence!

Checked in today and writing this before end of my first night here. I don't know why I booked this hotel after walking into the room. I should have booked the Niccolo or Waldorf Astoria. I guess I had wanted to experience Marriott stars booking but I don't feel much difference than other luxury hotels. I didn't even get a personalized welcome or warm welcome and now that I think about it, even though I'm a lowly Marriot gold who has access to those stars benefits anyways besides free breakfast being offered at the Ritz, food is so cheap in China already I should have skipped the brand loyalty. Staff are really nice, attentive and friendly but that can't make up for the rooms. I knew the hotel was going to be older than the other 5 star luxury options but those photos online don't really show how much it has aged. I've stayed at old school luxury hotels before and this is way older feeling. Stains all over the carpets and yellowing tile, with blackened and cracked caulking. Right when I walked in, I wanted to change the booking but alas I had already checked in. The Ritz isn't cheap either with only upper house and six senses being much more and the other 5 stars around the same or slightly below in price. Much better options I could have stayed at imo. I should have believed the mixed reviews and whoever is reading this should believe mine too. I dont know where those 5 stars come from besides the service. Anyone who has stayed at a luxury hotel would feel turned off by the room itself. Look at the clothes iron for example lol. I get room renovations are expensive but Marriott cant even upgrade what looks like a 30 year old iron and still charges this much? Feels like a run down hotel on its last legs being propped up by the great staff. Exaggerating slightly but imagine it's like going to a McDonald's with a wait staff. 4-5 star staff rating ( they didn't even give me a map or print out the benefits), 1- 2 star hotel room rating. 1 star value rating vs other 5 stars in the area. Gonna go to bed soon thinking about how I could have stayed in a nicer hotel. Uploaded photos- furniture doesnt even match, this place not just old, old is fine. This is run down. Newest thing in the room was the August 2025 Elle magazine. Edit: I was able to ask the front desk if i could checkout early and just pay for the 1 night. Ill be checking out in the morning and have already booked another hotel. 1320 yuan for one night or around $184 USD for this old hotel. Might be cheap for a Ritz but I dont care about the name, I care about the room. Edit 2. Stayed at the Niccolo instead after the 1 night. Like a whole different experience with cleaner rooms and even more attentive staff.
