Ace Hotel Chicago, located in the historic Fulton Market district, has a quirky, modern, industrial feel. The rooms and hallways have exposed concrete and unfinished wood. This styling gives the appearance of a revamped old space despite Ace Hotel Chicago being a newly constructed building. The City Mouse is the hotel signature restaurant named for the high-risk/high-reward Aesopian rodent, averts the country mouse's objections, through crafty food, modest prices and a leisurely atmosphere. The rooftop bar, Waydown is famous for its craft beer, cocktails and small plates.

The suite we stayed in was very nice and the location is absolutely perfect. The reason for the deduction was the incredibly rude server we had at the rooftop bar. He was a young gentleman, long hair. Very standoffish and rude. We had to wait quite awhile for our drinks but no assertiveness or urgency from the server. The front desk agent and valet were so, so kind and personable. But, the rooftop server really ruined the stay for us- as we were there to celebrate my husband’s birthday. Kindness goes a long way and he should be considered for a non-guest facing position.

The location of the Emily is in a great neighborhood with lots to see, do and places to eat. It is very walkable. The atmosphere of the hotel is contemporary industrial, and very nice if you like that style. The bars (rooftop and lobby) are nice and there’s a great coffee shop on the street level. I cannot comment about the restaurant(s) as I didn’t have time to eat there. The rooms are typically smallish for this style of hotel. The bed was low to the floor and the mattress (with no box spring) was extremely soft. If you like a more firm bed, this would not be a good place for you. The bathroom in the room was nice, but also very small. The shower was a shower-tub combo. What was weird and unappealing to me was the wall on the side of the tub that you had to step over in order to get in the shower or for a bath was probably a foot higher than is typical. It almost required a step stool to get in and out. And since the water was running to warm up before getting in the shower, the sloped bottom of the tub was very slick and slanted for drainage. I could see the wall and the effort required to step over it into the tub to be dangerously high and slippery. The rate I paid was a fair value, but I reserved the room hours before I arrived as it was a last minute trip to the area. Their rack rate is higher than I would be willing to pay. The rest of this hotel was really good. It may not be for everyone, and I’m torn on whether I’d stay there again or highly recommend it.

Clean hotel, great location, and an exceptionally kind staff. I was stuck at O’Hare due to severe storms and had to pivot quickly — choosing this hotel was the best decision. The team was caring and accommodating, the gym was spotless, and the coffee shop was excellent. Truly the best 10 hours I’ve ever spent in a hotel. Highly recommend.

Rooms did not have USB or USBC connections. Elevators and lobby reeked of unnecessary fragrances as if they were hiding bad odors. The first 2 nights I couldn’t sleep because of constant music outside my window ALL NIGHT LONG. I complained to manager about it finally and they did say it would not happen again and it didn’t. The bar at the end of the beds made it uncomfortable to dress in the morning and at night.
