Ace Hotel Chicago, located in the historic Fulton Market district, has a quirky, modern, industrial feel. The rooms and hallways have exposed concrete and unfinished wood. This styling gives the appearance of a revamped old space despite Ace Hotel Chicago being a newly constructed building. The City Mouse is the hotel signature restaurant named for the high-risk/high-reward Aesopian rodent, averts the country mouse's objections, through crafty food, modest prices and a leisurely atmosphere. The rooftop bar, Waydown is famous for its craft beer, cocktails and small plates.

I absolutely adored this place. The vibe was spot on, relaxed, genuine, and thoughtfully curated. The staff were fantastic, friendly in a real, unforced way that made the whole experience feel welcoming rather than scripted. The room was immaculately clean, which immediately stood out. I especially loved the full length desk built along a wall of windows overlooking the city lights. It was such a great touch, whether you are working or just taking it all in. Even the small details impressed me, like the mattress being fully encased and the bed’s simple, elevated design that made it feel both more comfortable and visibly clean. You could actually see underneath it, which added to the sense of care and cleanliness. Location wise, it could not have been better. It is in a great area that feels calm and not overly busy, yet still close to everything. It is right across from major companies and just around the corner from Fulton Market. This place easily exceeds any of the major hotel chains I have stayed at in Chicago. I would go back without hesitation.

The Emily Hotel is perfectly situated in the West Loop of Chicago, walkable to many shops and restaurants. It’s in a great location. The hotel itself is clean and they offer valet parking. I booked an accessible standard king room (by mistake). The room was clean but very basic. There was a stocked mini fridge and a coffee pot in the room, as well as a safe and close steamer. The carpet felt industrial and was not plush. The king size mattress sat on a metal frame with no boxspring. The bathroom sink was outside the bathroom and small. It could have used a shelf underneath for a couple’s toiletries. The bathroom had a shower that was accessible for a wheelchair and a toilet. Even though there was a closet with plenty of space, there were no drawers to use. I thought this may have been because it’s an accessible room but going through photos on their website, I noticed the sink was outside the bathroom for other rooms offered. There’s a coffee shop on the first floor as well as a restaurant and bar. The bar had a fantastic bourbon selection. The staff at the hotel was friendly and engaging. I had a bad fall in the room hurt my knee, badly cutting it in three places. Because it was late at night there were no pharmacies open, but the front desk staff gave my husband antiseptic cream and plenty of bandages. They offered to take me to the hospital as well. I chose Emily because it was a three minute walk from a fundraising event I was attending last weekend in the area. All in all, I would stay here again just for the location if I had another event in the West Loop or visiting our kids who live in the West Loop even though it’s pretty bare bones basic. I wouldn’t consider it a luxury boutique hotel, though. I stay in Chicago quite often in the theater district at a couple of boutique hotels and this one would be the bottom of the list of hotels I’ve frequented.
