With echoes of billiard balls, poker chips, and clinking glasses frozen within its walls, this 1890’s Venetian Gothic landmark in the Chicago Loop springs back to life as an incomparable historic downtown Chicago hotel—where the spirit of play reigns supreme. After all, this is the city where the can-and-will-do attitude of Ernie “Let’s Play Two!” Banks lives on, where the father of Chicago blues, Muddy Waters, shook all night long at the Checkerboard Lounge, and Sir Duke tickled the ivories at The Blue Note. And this is the club whose historic members swam with five-time Olympic gold medalist Johnny Weissmuller—a.k.a. the original Hollywood Tarzan—and watched their fellow member Pudge Heffelfinger own so much end zone, he became football’s first pro. Today, Chicago Athletic Association is both a stunning hotel offering outstanding guest rooms and a historic monument to the big-shouldered, switch hitting spirit that defines our city with a downtown location in the Chicago Loop.

If you love historic charm and the buzz of the city then the Chicago Athletic Association is a must for you to check out. The rooms were artfully designed with a nod to the history of the building and they made the most of the small square footage of city dwelling. We loved the location as we went to an event at Soldier Field so public transit was an option. We actually walked home from the event as it was a beautiful evening! We felt safe in the location and the staff was very warm and friendly.

Walk back in time to a renaissance pulse. With decor that embraces all aspects of architecture from the neoclassical era. Ornate designs of marble, wood, and exquisite mosaics are in every part of the structure. From the lobby to the hotel rooms one sees class and care throughout.

We stayed four nights while attending a concert at Soldier Field, and seeing the sites. The property is absolutely gorgeous and truly unique. The vintage athletic club theme throughout pairs the perfect amount of quirkiness with the Venetian gothic architecture. The property is also very conveniently located to see just about any site downtown. We will definitely stay here again.

Fabulous place, elegant, well maintained. Room was a little noisy, but I think that was just my specific floor... I was too near the HVAC...
