With echoes of billiard balls, poker chips, and clinking glasses frozen within its walls, this 1890’s Venetian Gothic landmark in the Chicago Loop springs back to life as an incomparable historic downtown Chicago hotel—where the spirit of play reigns supreme. After all, this is the city where the can-and-will-do attitude of Ernie “Let’s Play Two!” Banks lives on, where the father of Chicago blues, Muddy Waters, shook all night long at the Checkerboard Lounge, and Sir Duke tickled the ivories at The Blue Note. And this is the club whose historic members swam with five-time Olympic gold medalist Johnny Weissmuller—a.k.a. the original Hollywood Tarzan—and watched their fellow member Pudge Heffelfinger own so much end zone, he became football’s first pro. Today, Chicago Athletic Association is both a stunning hotel offering outstanding guest rooms and a historic monument to the big-shouldered, switch hitting spirit that defines our city with a downtown location in the Chicago Loop.

The Chicago Athletic Association Hotel is the most charming hotel in the city of Chicago. My wife and I recently got married in Chicago and one of the highlights of the weekend was hanging out at the hotel! It has a roaring 20's vibe with the dark woods in the main lobby and the large game room which is a fun place to get a drink and play chess/pool. Amazing location close to the Amtrak, Chicago subway, and the South shore railroad. And it's across the street from Millennium Park. Most importantly, the staff is very professional and attentive and will go above and beyond to make your stay perfect. I always stay at this hotel when I go to Chicago because of it's charm and service. I would never stay anywhere else because it's a truly unique hotel in an awesome location with the nicest and most professional staff. 10/10 recommend to anyone!

It's a beautiful hotel with great atmosphere. The location is unbeatable. Most of the staff are quite professional and kind, some have attitude that's inappropriate. The rooms are acceptable, but the bathrooms have zero conveniences like hooks or countertops if that matters to you. We wasted more towels and thus more water and laundry because there was no railings or hooks to place them on. We found it incredibly inconvenient. There were no drawers in the bedroom so everything was piled on the desk or in the small drawers in the wet bar. And no artwork. A very boring room. Being an old hotel makes no excuse for these inconveniences. Be sure to make reservations at the rooftop restaurant as even as a guest it is difficult to get a seat.

Unmatched elegance and stunning surroundings for a wedding. Beautiful old-world decor. Great location right across from Millenium Park. Majestic ballroom and event rooms. Staff is outstanding, accommodating for any request and anticipates all situations. Food and beverage service all excellent. But: Rooms are spartan, don't match the rest of the hotel. Very convenient for attending events there, but don't expect modern updates.

We arrived a little before check-in and our room was not ready yet, which is totally fine. They told us it would be ready shortly and they would text us when it was ready. Three hours later and no text. We had to go back to the front desk to check in after check-in time. We had request a crib to our room and they provided a pack and play for our 17 month old, however, it was not properly assembled and I had to fix it. If I had not noticed, this would not have been a safe sleeping space for our 17 month old. We went to take a shower in our room before bed and the shower overflowed within 5 minutes. The drain was clogged. The engineers came right away and worked with a noisy machine for over 30 minutes and told us it was fixed. The next morning we tried to take a shower and the drain was still clogged! I called the front desk to ask for somewhere else to shower but they were sold out and did not have an alternative for us. We are a family of four - traveling with a 1 year old and 4 year old - and had not been able to get properly cleaned for 24 hours at this point. They came and fixed the clog - successfully this time - and we were told that housekeeping would be sent right away to clean up the gunk from removing the clog. This was around 8 am. We left and returned around 12:30 pm and housekeeping had not come. The hotel gave us $75 room service/restaurant voucher for our inconvenience even though we were there for a wedding and had all our meals planned. We used a little bit of it for room service for our children, but this $75 is not even 10% of our two night stay and definitely did not compensate us for our inconvenience.

I stayed here for five nights during the Chicago Marathon. Despite the hotel being fully booked, staff responsiveness was impeccable. Daily housekeeping was truly superb. Hotel bar and restaurants were also great. Beautiful property.
