With echoes of billiard balls, poker chips, and clinking glasses frozen within its walls, this 1890’s Venetian Gothic landmark in the Chicago Loop springs back to life as an incomparable historic downtown Chicago hotel—where the spirit of play reigns supreme. After all, this is the city where the can-and-will-do attitude of Ernie “Let’s Play Two!” Banks lives on, where the father of Chicago blues, Muddy Waters, shook all night long at the Checkerboard Lounge, and Sir Duke tickled the ivories at The Blue Note. And this is the club whose historic members swam with five-time Olympic gold medalist Johnny Weissmuller—a.k.a. the original Hollywood Tarzan—and watched their fellow member Pudge Heffelfinger own so much end zone, he became football’s first pro. Today, Chicago Athletic Association is both a stunning hotel offering outstanding guest rooms and a historic monument to the big-shouldered, switch hitting spirit that defines our city with a downtown location in the Chicago Loop.

Beautiful hotel, nice rooms, helpful staff -- very busy lobby and restaurants. Hard to get a seat anywhere. Made for a bustling atmosphere and the very central location meant it wasn't quiet -- but that's not why we came! Would recommend to anyone -- as long as you're not looking for alone time.

Was pleasantly surprised by how much we liked this property. It is charming and warm. Terrific location. Rooms are small but very well appointed and clean. Somehow did not feel claustrophobic. Loved all the little details. Coffee shop in the lobby is excellent, and have a Shake Shack on property was a bonus for a quick bite.

I was looking forward to this hotel for weeks but it was not what I thought it would be. While beautiful, staff was untrained and hard to find. Was told I was paying a daily fee for amenities, but no staff seemed to know what those amenities were. Was not welcomed, wandered around in the main entrance trying to find the lobby, when I did find the lobby no immediate staff was at the desk. Went to wait at the World of Hyatt side and someone came over but never once acknowledged me as such member or explained any benefits I got as one or that were covered under the extra daily fee. I had also stayed at the Hyatt Regency near by on this trip that went above and beyond, welcoming me at the door, taking our luggage for us, welcoming us at World of Hyatt members, giving us a complimentary room upgrade, offering us a discounted rate for another upgrade, explaining all of the benefits we got at the hotel such as a $25 credit towards dinner, water bottles, etc. I was always greeted when walking in and asked many times if there was anything else they could do to better my trip in person and via my email. Would 100% book the Hyatt Regency over this hotel unfortunately. Our room also only had one robe for two people despite mentioning multple times about what an wonderful unique robe they were, and some of the mini bar items that were listed on the menu were missing already and I'm hoping I dont get random charges for those. It seemed like whom ever had made our room ready had missed some details like that, as well as having one of the curtains closed and one open, which while thats not a big deal it just felt half hearted along with all of the other interactions with staff that we had.

The Chicago Athletic Association hotel exudes classic charm. It was a perfect atmosphere for an anniversary getaway. Parks, museums, and skating are all nearby. And the hotel's fireplace seating made an easy spot to relax in between. The food and drink are exceptional, with a variety of options across dietary needs. The restaurants range from quiet to boisterous, so there is a place for any mood. The staff are warm and welcoming. We are already planning to make this our Chicago spot for future visits.

Fantastic stay from start to finish. The room was comfortable and well designed, the hospitality was warm and attentive, and the food and beverage offerings were outstanding. A perfect blend of classic Chicago character and modern comfort. Highly recommend for both business and leisure stays.
