Reviews for The Drake Hotel Chicago

Great location, meh room

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

The lobby and location of the hotel are great! Very impressive entrance. We had a water view and it was nice to be able to see the lake. The room is dated, with furniture dinged. No mini fridge in the room which we would have liked. The shower was a little tricky to figure out and counter space is very limited. The on site coffee shop was amazing, those ladies were hustling! Lots of great restaurants in the area, and we would highly recommend the river architecture tour.

Rooms need maintenance and updating

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

My wife and I like old, beautiful and historic hotels that’s why we decided to stay a night here on our Anniversary.. We loved the historic old Grand Hotel at MacKinac Island and we thought we would have the same experience staying at Drake. Unfortunately that didn’t happen. The Drake hotel is iconic and it’s sad to see it crumble slowly. Hilton should do a better job at maintaining it. My wife and I got locked in inside the bathroom at separate times because the door knob was not working right and the towel bar on the door keeps falling. ( I told the lady at the counter while checking out and she just said I’ll have someone look at it. No reaction at all as if it’s a normal occurrence. She didn’t even look at me when I told her and stayed focus on the computer screen.). The ceiling in the bathroom is deteriorating and there’s a rip on the room carpet and a closet is shut closed by a screw on top for a reason. Thank God I didn’t pay a lot for our room because it was a holiday but it wasn’t even worth the price I paid to be honest. One good thing is that we stayed at the 10th floor with a nice view of the lake. But because the windows are small we didn’t get to enjoy it that much. I hope Hilton would do some upgrading and not let this historic hotel fall apart.

A Historically Bad Experience.

What a sad state of affairs the once grand Drake hotel has become. While it still has the historic facade and grand public spaces the rest of the hotel is beyond underwhelming. My junior king suite had 30+ year old furnishings in poor condition while the bathroom was worse than a motel 6. The quality of towels and soaps simply unacceptable and it took 6 hrs to have an extra towel sent to my room. Meanwhile after a 5 night stay I still can’t tell you how to use their “tech” for room service. This hotel deserves better. But under its current conditions it’s impossible to recommend it at the price point charged.

Wonderful staff, depressing & shabby rooms.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

The three stars are for all the staff we encountered, who were all lovely, helpful, and kind. The hotel lobby is gorgeous and reminiscent of a different era. The hotel common areas are very clean. The rooms are where it all goes downhill! Our room was clean but shabby and depressing. Peeling, dirty wallpaper, dirty vents on the walls, ageing carpets, a broken smoke alarm, paper-thin towels, and a shower that took 10 minutes to heat up. Hilton should do a far better job with updating this place.

I would never recommend this hotel to anyone

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

This hotel should should get zero. Number one the room is far smaller than what they put on the website number two the service is atrocious. Number three they have a QR code for room service and if you phone doesn’t work you end up waiting 25 minutes for someone to come up to use your phone to try to get you some food as there is no menu in the room and there is no way to call room service. This entire fiasco was almost 2 hours in the end. I never got my food. I would never stay here again definitely not worth the money to Talle but I would never recommend this hotel. The rooms are antiquated need to be updated, the bathtub has a sinking side when you step on it to make this compliant I’m surprised it’s still in business. I would never ever recommend this to anyone.
