Dated and Customer Service Doesn't Step It Up

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

We stayed here for three nights very recently. Lobby, restaurants and conference rooms are historic, well maintained and beautiful to visit. But that is where it ends. The rooms themselves leave much to be desired: small yet also a lot of wasted space and then the lack of bathroom hooks is surprising. The finishes are just dated and walls dirty. In older hotels, where the space is vintage, the customer service usually makes up for the physical plant. Yet here it doesn't step up: The front desk gives you flat service, the bell man told me to "get out of my way" when our luggage was being dropped off (wow) and rest of the staff was just going through the motions. So nothing really draws you here other than to come walk the lobby and take in the vintage, historical value of the building....but stay somewhere else.

Hotel concierge experience

Daphne at the Concierge stand at the Drake Hotel was very friendly and helpful. I was looking for dinner recommendations nearby and she provided a great list of options. I also found a helpful list of ideas for things to do in the city this weekend.

Classic, historic accommodations

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

This was our second time at The Drake, you can’t beat its historic charm and elegance. Our room was cozy but plenty of space with a small bathroom. You don’t mind the small size due to the historic charm of the place from the elevators to the lobby to the doormen. The location is ideal with restaurants, shops and sites within walking distance. The staff are professional and helpful. My only complaint was that the Oak Cafe where you can get breakfast, was closed on Monday and Tuesday. There is a coffee shop on site with good but limited breakfast/lunch items as well as other places within walking distance but would have been my preference to eat at the on site cafe. Otherwise Highly recommended.

The Drake is truly an iconic hotel with a fantastic location—right in the heart of everything! The atmosphere is classic and elegant, and the staff consistently go above and beyond. A special shout out to Daphne at the concierge—she was incredibly helpful and made my stay even more enjoyable. Highly recommend!

Afternoon tea.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

My wife and I took 2 granddaughters to the Palm Court at the Drake Hotel for afternoon tea. We all had a wonderful time. The service was superb. Our waiter went out of his way to explain the menu and make us feel welcome. He was attentive but not overbearing. The food was fresh, beautifully presented and delicious. Our granddaughters were mesmerized by the harpist playing while we ate. The setting was beautiful.
