Named one of the Best Hotels in Chicago 2016 by Travel + Leisure, The Gwen, a Luxury Collection Hotel is located on the Magnificent Mile in the landmark McGraw-Hill Building within walking distance to many of Chicago attractions and the Loop. The reimagined icon is adorned with panels created in 1929 by sculptress Gwen Lux, the hotel's namesake. Embracing her artistic spirit, the 311-room hotel, featuring 32 suites, also celebrates the energy and glamour of Chicago in the 1930s.

We received a very nice upgrade for our anniversary in the hotel, which was a pleasant surprise. The room itself was very comfortable, quite and clean. We were also positively surprised by the evening room make-up. The location is kind of tricky. On one hand it is located in the center, at the footstep of the magnificent mile, but you need to go through a Nordstrom connection, or exit through the backdoor to the hotel and go around some not as nice streets. Overall it is fine, but it makes every going-out a dilemma. There are two main issues why I couldn't rate this hotel over 3 stars: 1. The restaurant is abysmal. Never have I encountered such a slow service and extremely bad food. We tried almost everything on the breakfast menu, and half of the room service. If it is possible to get a room for a lower rate and exclude breakfast, do it. 2. For some reason, this hotel is a hub for gathering and meetups. There is a literal train for people coming in throughout the day, so the feel of vacation is somewhat lost when you have to push your way through the numerous random people, not to mention the hustle and bustle noise.

I have stayed at The Study at the University of Chicago campus many times since it opened in 2021 and have yet to be disappointed. Front desk, maintenance, and other guest service personnel are all obviously carefully selected, well-trained, valued, and rewarded, which is reflected in the way they serve and relate to hotel guests and each other. Everyone, and I do mean everyone, goes out of their way (without overdoing) to greet you, make sure all your needs are met and that you are enjoying your stay, and give their guests reason to relax, smile, and enjoy their stay. The rooms are beautifully appointed, many with spectacular view of the campus and/or lakefront, exceptionally peaceful, and always super clean and comfortable. The attached eating spot, Truth Be Told, meets the same standard and the menu, food, and drink are all excellent. Especially if your reason for being in town involves UChicago, the location cannot be beat. The Study understands its market and clientele well. Thank you thank you to all the people at The Study at UChicago and Hospitality 3 visionary Paul McGowan. Please don't change a thing!

Great hotel! Luigi at the front desk was the best. He was friendly and provided us with exceptional service. The staff brought me a birthday card and a cupcake to my room once they learned it was my birthday weekend. The room was clean and comfortable. The hotel has direct access to the Shops at North Bridge and all of what Michigan Ave has to offer.

Our experience has been excellent. Luigi was amazing and provided great recommendations on what to do while we are here celebrating a birthday. He was amazing, thoughtful, kind, and insightful. He made us feel like we made the perfect choice for hotel accommodations.

The most excellent high quality hotel I’ve experienced in a long time. Services were excellent and the people at the checkin desk were very friendly, helpful. Valet parking was exceptional and the bellhop people as well. Felt safe at the Gwen hotel.
