I reviewed years ago and since then have stayed there multiple times, but also naturally have stayed in numerous 4/5 star hotels and thought it was time to refresh the review. It’s still the standard all hotels (especially US urban/city hotels) should be judged by. While not cheap compare to other rates for hotels that just don’t compare it looks like a bargain. Best service, best room, great location. Really can’t recommend more One thing I will add in hopes management reads these—the bar option is my only complaint. Z Bar does not fit the vibe nor the expectations of many of the clientele. I’m a business man so understand it’s probably a great revenue source but the majority of people there I strongly suspect are from outside the hotel. They at least need another lobby bar option where you can have a relaxed cocktail and a conversation without pulsating dance music, I genuinely miss the old bar. Beyond that it is the place to stay in Chicago

The Peninsula Chicago is the single best urban hotel in America and I have had the good fortune to experience some great hotels. From the moment you enter the Pen's revolving doors you are welcomed into its embrace until the time you reluctantly leave. Everyone treats you w/respect and kindness. I'm a repeat guest, and I only wish I could visit more often. The Pen really makes me feel as though I've come home, but to a much nicer home than the one I live in. I enjoyed morning breakfast in the lobby or at Pierrot Gourmet. Shanghai Terrace is fabulous as is the Z bar and room service. The fitness center and pool is wonderful. The true genius of this hotel is that every person who works at the Pen treats you with genuine warmth. And the true mark of a hotel is somehow, someway, they make you feel more important than you are. It's great for your posture! I cannot praise any hotel more than The Peninsula Chicago. I look forward to my next visit to my perfect home away from home.

Chose the Peninsula from Amex's travel program. Check in was great and efficient. Madison explained all the benefits and escorted us to our room. Gorgeous room but our first night was accompanied by obsessive street noise coming into our 17th floor room. Turns out one of the windows wasn't securely fastened, which we didn't discover until the morning after. Thankfully problem fixed. That morning we went downstairs to enjoy breakfast and were met at host stand and told there was a 45 minute wait despite several open tables. Kyle, the manager, offered us a booking at another restaurant on site but that was unsuccessful. I then explained to Kyle that we were guests at hotel and we were immediately seated. How were we assumed to be NOT guests? Hopefully, the color of our skin was not a factor. Kyle came by apologized for the confusion and breakfast was delightful. My companion thought something else would be done to compensate for the awkward start, but nothing was offered. My last morning at the property I chose breakfast again. Immediately seated. Selected their muesli and fruit combination. Breakfast was tasty until I got near the end and discovered a hair in my food. Yuck! The waiter summoned the manager who happened to be Kyle, who remembered me from the prior day. Kyle offered to comp my meal and that was accepted. Overall the stay within the 4 walls of room were fabulous: however, there were issues as described above when dining.

Beautiful rooms, quiet and peaceful. The spa was amazing- wish I could have spent more time there. The elevator to the lobby is a bit of a pain and causes some delays and the check in desk is on the opposite side of where one would think- meaning everyone seems to head to the concierge desk and get turned around. The concierge was a bit rude when I asked about storing luggage from an event after the event hosts directed me to do so. Otherwise I found this hotel amazing and would love to stay again

Another superb stay at the Peninsula Chicago. They are truly second to none in the Windy City. Service is outstanding. Rooms are gorgeous. Bathrooms are showing their age….hoping they update them soon. But still wouldn’t choose any other hotel.. The spa CANNOT be missed. Best hotel pool in the city. I love the Peking duck at Shanghai Terrace.
