I stayed at this property once when they first opened back in 2013, and I thoroughly enjoyed my stay back then with the location, cleanliness and quiet atmosphere of the hotel. I was coming to town to visit family for the holidays and decided to stay here again as a mini-getaway and turn down after long days of family activities. That was the wrong choice for me. From the onset, the staff hardly greeted me and were dismissive and standoffish for the duration of my stay. While I requested a "quiet room", it was anything but quiet. There was a party across the hall at around 12:30 a.m., and I called down to the front desk (on my cell phone because the phone in the room wasn't working) and asked to move rooms due to the party, but I was told their policy is no room changes once you've checked in. Security asks the party goers to keep it down, but I still hear them and doors slamming/elevator dings until 3:00 a.m. So much for a quiet room and a "turn down" after a long day. The good part is the location is prime with Tavern on Rush and other dining hotspots right there and there's plenty of shopping in the area so it's worth it for visitors who want that experience. If you're looking for a quiet and peaceful stay or even a semi-friendly staff, there are plenty of other options in the city.

The hotel was well maintained. Our room was great. Appreciated the elevator security felt safe. Food was good in the tavern alongside hotel.

One of my friends recommended The Thompson a couple of years ago and it has been our go to hotel in Chicago whether my husband and I are traveling or we are with our family. It is a great location especially for the higher end shopping and varied dining options and the rooms are very nice. We usually book the corner rooms and they have a lot of windows and great city views. The rooms have always been clean and the beds are very comfortable. The bathroom actually has good lighting (I can see to put on makeup!) and lovely smelling bath products although the shower controls and that set up are a little fussy. It took me a second to figure those out! On our last stay Ahmed at the front desk let us extend our checkout until 2pm so we had more time to enjoy the city and with the valet parking our car was ready and parked out in front in no time. We enjoyed dessert at the restaurant connected to the lobby one night (I think it is The Tavern on Rush) and had tea there one morning too. The Original Pancake House is across the street which is convenient for breakfast or brunch before heading home. And for the super early morning coffee people like us there is a Starbucks close by. All in all a really nice stay!

This is our go-to hotel when staying in Chicago! They have the best customer service/hospitality. The staff is extremely attentive and kind. The rooms are modern and classy. The location is ideal!
