Reviews for Six Senses Crans Montana

More suited to families than couples. Not enough experienced staff. More chain hotel than bespoke experience.

Six Senses Crans opened 3 years ago to some very poor reviews. Curious (and also keen to discover a new hotel in a ski-ing resort which I like), I booked for the weekend of 23 January. Many past reviews mentioned the confusing layout of the hotel and the lack of professionalism of the staff. I went to great lengths to enquire about the category of room which I was booking and also the quality of the bed. I arrived on a busy weekend: I was allocated a room in Chalet 4 - a long way away from Reception and also the Spa and the main hub of the hotel. Whilst the views onto the forest were calming, the 'Cri D'Er' funicular runs past the room every minute and I assume that passengers can actually see into the room as funicular cabins pass quite close. Access to the room is so confusing and there are no signs. The room design is 'modern ski-hotel' - heavy browns and greys and low furniture. The room size is large [50 meters] but is designed to be used for a couple with a child - not for a solo guest. there is no desk and the Sofa Bed is too low to sit on with ease. I spent most of Friday afternoon trying to request a room change: nobody ever explained the rooms' location when I booked and they should have pointed out the room is a long long way from anywhere. As there are four buildings in the hotel, make sure that the room you book is centrally located but not on top of restaurant areas. All of the staff who I encountered were very young, poorly trained and seemed fed up. I met a greeter called Mahmood, who wanted me to pay the City Tax before I even saw the room. I met another greeter called Ivan, who told me that I was a very interesting person and he wanted to get to know me more. This was not in itself wrong - it just felt inappropriate, when I was explaining that the room was not suitable. I had a long conversation with Cristina, who was Reception Manager, Cristina, really barely paid attention to my concerns and shrugged her shoulders. She did not suggest a conversation with the Rooms Director and neither did she check that all Saturday arrivals had checked in or if there was anything else that she could offer instead of the allocated room.. I had requested a very soft mattress: the bed was not comfortable - a serious concern as I have Spinal Arthritis. My overall sense here is suffocating panic: the combination of Greek, Italian, Bulgarian and South Asians service staff, mingled with the confused layout of the building and the sludge dark colours makes me feel as if I am in an Airport Lounge. I did not eat in the restaurants here: on the saturday evening, thumping garage music blared from the bar and lounge. Despite breakfast supposedly being included, I was told that it was CH50 to have breakfast in the room. Possibly, I am just not a Six Senses person. Possibly, because the resort architects had to sell Residences in the property, all hotel rooms on the resort are slightly compromised. However , my conclusion is that the management is poor. Why are there no signs in the hotel directing you to different areas? Why is there no concierge? Why is there no co-ordination between all the departments? Reservations and Rooms Director clearly never talk. Most of the other guests were forty-something couples - Asians, Middle Easterners and some local Swiss French families up to enjoy the snow. To be fair, they looked reasonably happy - so clearly I do not fit the Six senses profile. My conclusion: this hotel is not for the discerning solo traveller or couple. If you want a room big enough for you and a child - and you have a good sense of direction, you'll be happy here. This is a volume offering: [The hotel has 68 rooms ] and when full, feels claustrophobic. No bespoke service, no ownership of issues which go wrong. Final point: horrid little slippers that look like an elf's hat!

Beautiful hotel, great staff, amazing food.

We stayed 5 nights at this really beautiful property with our 2 daughters and we had a wonderful stay. The staff were really helpful and welcoming. The spa is outstanding where we had a great massage. The staff at the kids club was helpful. We slept very well. Also special congratulations for the food which is really surprising and a discovery. We took a carpaccio of langoustines and the truffle consome.

Lovely rooms, the place smells so good…the spa is gorgeous as well as the pool. Hotel entrance is impressive. The breakfast is just one of the best, fresh juices, shots and a lot of heakthy delicious choices. Lovely town and restaurants around. A weekend place for pure relaxation. Staff were also kind and helpful. We love this place.

Well beyond expectations

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 7 months ago

The place is stunning. Every detail carefully maintained. We were upgraded to a better room and provided with the utmost attention and care, as we unexpectedly needed special assistance - they provided a free wheelchair for our use throughout the stay. Every single member of the staff was outstandingly helpful and gracious. Breakfast is excellent with ample choices. The juice bar alone is to die for. For dinner at the wild cabin, we had to mixed experience. One meal was beyond expectations with delicious food. The next day was not up to the previous evening level. I don't know why this happened but must say that remarks were attended and we were not charged for the dishes that we did not like. The spa staff was very helpful as well. The activity assistance set with me to elaborate possible hikes which were all will explained and exactly what I needed. Thank you to all.

Amazing stay

Top notch hotel we really loved every minute of it, they were very accommodating to our dietary requirements, service is amazing! We can't wait to return! The only downside is that they don't have AC in the rooms and it gets hot but they gave us a fan!
