Voted the Best Hotel in South America by the readers of Condé Nast Traveler, Belmond Hotel Monasterio deserves every accolade that comes its way. Built in the 16th century as a monastery on Inca foundations, this cloistered compound is located amid the historic splendor of Cusco, Peru. Most notably, the hotel serves as an ideal base for exploring the mystical ruins of Machu Picchu. Much of the original architecture of Belmond Hotel Monasterio remains intact, paying homage to its original seminarian occupants. In keeping with its intended purpose, the rooms and suites feature a mix of traditional and contemporary furnishings, with a gallery of religious art gracing the walls. Because of the high elevation, 11,000 feet above sea level, many of the rooms are equipped with an oxygen supplementation system for your added comfort.

We loved our stay at the Monasterio, a 16th century remodeled monastery. From the room, staff, restaurant and bar, everything was top notch!!

Coolest accommodation we have ever stayed in. From ringing the bell to announce our arrival, to the original art throughout the hotel, to the beautiful courtyards, to the dinner in Taquay, we were treated to endless luxury. This is no monastic life I ever imagined, but it made for a memorable experience!

Great location and stylish hotel up to the usual Belmond standards. Slick service and the best breakfast selections of any hotel anywhere. A pity that in the rainy season when there’s no threat of rain that they don’t uncover the outdoor seating (the nearby Marriot does!) to make that area more welcoming.

A wonderful hotel full of art, history, and a peaceful ambiance unlike anything I’ve experienced. I highly recommend for a short or long trip, just make sure you take advantage of the evening art history tour!

As an avid traveler and one who has stayed at several different luxury properties I must state emphatically this was the most impressive stay and service I have ever experienced. The staff from moment one until checkout were remarkable, attentive, kind, informative and caring. The room was lovely and the food exceptional. The property itself is beautiful and the experience heightened by the professionalism and passion of the staff. If possible I would rate the hotel as 6 stars. Thank you for everything you provided to make this stay beyond memorable. Matthew.

Hotel Monasterio in Cusco is truly world-class. Cusco is about 11,000 feet in altitude, but they offer oxygen supplement in rooms. Everything is superb. The manager invited us to a special cocktail party on one night, very gracious.

My daughter and I enjoyed our trip to Peru immensely. We stayed at the Hotel Monasterio in Cusco and found it to be superb. We had a magnificent suite, the staff was perfect and the chef sent us a wonderful surprise birthday cake to our room.

We visited Peru and the entire trip was spectacular. Orient-Express hotels provided exceptional service and world-class accommodations. We stayed at the Miraflores Park Hotel, Hotel Monasterio, and Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge. All three hotels had beautiful rooms, outstanding restaurants, and a helpful friendly English-speaking staff. From now on, Orient-Express will be at the top of my list for worldwide travel.
