About the Hotel

Voted the Best Hotel in South America by the readers of Condé Nast Traveler, Belmond Hotel Monasterio deserves every accolade that comes its way. Built in the 16th century as a monastery on Inca foundations, this cloistered compound is located amid the historic splendor of Cusco, Peru. Most notably, the hotel serves as an ideal base for exploring the mystical ruins of Machu Picchu. Much of the original architecture of Belmond Hotel Monasterio remains intact, paying homage to its original seminarian occupants. In keeping with its intended purpose, the rooms and suites feature a mix of traditional and contemporary furnishings, with a gallery of religious art gracing the walls. Because of the high elevation, 11,000 feet above sea level, many of the rooms are equipped with an oxygen supplementation system for your added comfort.

Reviews for Belmond Hotel Monasterio

A magical stay!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

I have traveled all over the world, to many of the best hotels, however Monasterio tops them all. The staff here, from top to bottom, is absolutely exceptional! Their kindness and attention to detail is unparalleled! The rooms are exquisitely furnished and so comfortable. The food here is simple, yet so sophisticated with simply all the best ingredients Peru has to offer! EVERY detail here is thought out and extremely well executed. I cannot wait to return to this wonderful property!

Absolutely love it.

Gorgeous hotel in Cusco which was a former Jesuit seminary. You can’t tell from the outside but once you step through the doors, you are transported into a luxurious hotel which has retained much of the original architecture. And it has character, which is often lacking in most chain hotels. Service is warm and impeccable. The 2 on-site restaurants serve excellent food. We are very happy with our stay and was sad to leave.

PERU VACATION

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

The Monasterio in Cusco is an exceptional basecamp to explore Cusco, Sacred Valley and Machu Pichu sites. We highly recommend a vacation in Peru, the people are friendly, the quality of food is excellent, and the sites are truly worthy of any bucket-list!

Legendary stay at a legendary city

This Belmond hotel blew us away. How they've managed to blend the Monastery and the hotel is amazing. We even had original pieces of the art and walls in our room. The staff pays attention to every detail about your stay ensuring that you are able to relax and enjoy Cusco to its fullest. The hotel is able to provide everything you need and from the moment you step into their facilities you'll know you made the right decision by choosing this place

Unforgettable stay at Monasterio

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

My husband and I have had a wonderful and memorable 5-day stay at Monasterio. The hotel itself is beyond words - absolutely stunning and top-notch in terms of amenities, dining, and location. However, our stay would not have been as wonderful without the superb service of the staff. They are welcoming, warm, kind, knowledgeable, and professional—they care deeply about the guest experience. On our last night at the hotel, it was sad for us to leave as we felt like we were leaving friends. The folks at El Tupay even presented us with a special dessert to thank us for visiting. It was very touching and we appreciated it their thoughtfulness. If we ever return to Peru, we will definitely stay at the Monasterio again, mainly due to the experience these individuals provided. If friends or family visit Peru, we will not hesitate to recommend Monasterio.

Hotel Monasterio in Cusco is truly world-class. Cusco is about 11,000 feet in altitude, but they offer oxygen supplement in rooms. Everything is superb. The manager invited us to a special cocktail party on one night, very gracious.

My daughter and I enjoyed our trip to Peru immensely. We stayed at the Hotel Monasterio in Cusco and found it to be superb. We had a magnificent suite, the staff was perfect and the chef sent us a wonderful surprise birthday cake to our room.

We visited Peru and the entire trip was spectacular. Orient-Express hotels provided exceptional service and world-class accommodations. We stayed at the Miraflores Park Hotel, Hotel Monasterio, and Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge. All three hotels had beautiful rooms, outstanding restaurants, and a helpful friendly English-speaking staff. From now on, Orient-Express will be at the top of my list for worldwide travel.

We traveled to Peru and enjoyed stays at Miraflores Hotel in Lima, Hotel Monasterio in Cusco, and Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge. I am highly satisfied and recommend these hotels without reservation.
