Lovely luxury but be aware of all the hidden extra charges

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

This is a very luxurious hotel, with very friendly staff on hand at all times. The room we had was comfortable and looked great. I really liked the casting function on the TV , we could listen to Spotify and watch our favourite shows on streaming apps from our phones. The room controls were very good except I found it hard to read the labels, this might be more a problem for older people! We were surprised no kettle or coffee/tea facilities were provided in the room. Breakfast was very good, my only complaint would be the seating. You eat in a room that is setup perfectly for an evening drink with views of the castle, but trying to eat a full breakfast whilst bent right over in a low armchair trying to reach a low coffee table with a low shelf that stops you moving in closer was a challenge and I felt uncomfortable afterwards because of my stomach. The only other point that I feel people should be made aware of is all the extra charges you are not warned about before you arrive. I had paid up front for the hotel so was happy the only costs would be any extra food or drink etc but they seem to charge about £20 per night service charge, also £10 per each breakfast even though it was included, and another £10 on top of the two drinks we had.

A Truly Exceptional Stay ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 6 days ago

My stay at 100 Princes Street was absolutely fabulous from beginning to end. Every aspect of the experience exceeded my expectations. The hotel can be slightly difficult to locate at first, but a quick call to the staff solved that immediately. They were gracious and helpful in guiding me right in, and that level of attentiveness continued throughout my stay. Everything was exceptional. The rooms are beautifully designed and extremely comfortable, and the public spaces feel elegant yet welcoming. Breakfast each morning and dinner in the evening were both outstanding. The team truly makes this hotel special. Their warmth, professionalism, and attention to detail were flawless. The location is wonderful and makes exploring Edinburgh effortless. Museums, cafés, parks, and shopping are all just steps away, so it is easy to immerse yourself in the city. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and the pillows were perfect. I prefer a firm pillow and one was promptly brought to my room without hesitation. Thoughtful touches such as treats upon arrival, bottled water, and a fantastic rain shower with excellent water pressure made the stay even more enjoyable. It was the perfect place to recover from jet lag after traveling. This was one of the best stays I have had in a long time, and I travel frequently, so that says a great deal. I would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend 100 Princes Street to anyone visiting Edinburgh.

Exceptional place

Our stay at 100 Princes Street was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we arrived, everything about the experience felt thoughtful, refined, and genuinely special. I would recommend it wholeheartedly to anyone visiting the city. The location is absolutely perfect — central, convenient, and ideal for exploring, yet it still feels intimate and exclusive. It’s also incredibly easy to access by car, which made our arrival and departure completely stress-free. The ambiance and décor are stunning. Every space feels beautifully curated, blending elegance with warmth. The views are simply breathtaking and add an extra layer of magic to the entire stay. Waking up to such scenery was unforgettable. Cleanliness was impeccable throughout — every detail was flawless. You can tell the team takes enormous pride in maintaining the highest standards, and it shows in every corner of the hotel. What truly sets 100 Princes Street apart, however, is the staff. They personalised our stay in the most thoughtful ways, adding small touches that made a big difference. Everyone was warm, welcoming, and genuinely attentive without ever being intrusive. It felt less like staying at a hotel and more like being hosted with care. Breakfast is an absolute must — beautifully presented, delicious, and the perfect way to start the day. A visit to The Wallace is also essential, whether for snacks or dinner. And if you enjoy whisky, be sure to ask the expert Dario for a recommendation — his knowledge and passion elevate the experience even further. An amazing stay from beginning to end. We cannot wait to return.

Beautiful and comfortable 4 night stay

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 6 days ago

We stayed four nights at 100 Princes Street during our trip to Edinburgh. This was a big deal as one of our “non-negotiable” items in a hotel is a gym, and this property does not have a gym. It did, however, have a lot of great reviews, and between that and their beautiful website photos we decided it would be fine to just get some exercise by walking all over the city. We loved the location which was easily walkable from the train station and to all the places we wanted to visit. We stayed in room 401. The hotel and rooms are quiet and beautifully decorated, from the striking four-story staircase mural to our cozy tartan room. Our bathroom was the favorite in the hotel according to staff, and for us too: it was huge, with a glorious soaking tub, heated floors and towel rack, two sinks, and terrific shower water pressure and temperature control. And super cozy bathrobes! Our room was on the smaller size (not unexpected for the building) but we slept very well – really comfy beds and pillows. We didn’t partake of the mini bar but the items seemed pretty reasonably priced for a boutique hotel. The only issue we found was the “form over function” lighting switches, which were non-intuitive to start with, and along with the unhelpful, unreadable etched labeling in the chrome switch plates, took us three full days to master what switch controlled which light. We ate breakfast in the hotel for three out of the four mornings. We also ate dinner there once along with several evenings of cocktails. For breakfast, we tried many of the items on offer: full Scottish, porridge, pastries, fruit, yogurt, granola, eggs Benedict, various cheeses, whatever kinds of coffee/espresso drinks/teas you like, juices….all very delicious. (Note that the breakfast price is a bit high but you can order anything off the menu you want.) Dinner was very nice as it was our first evening in town and we just wanted to park ourselves somewhere comfortable. Our cocktails were great – they have an awesome bartender! The only negative in our dining experience was another form over function issue – the tables in the dining area are beautiful but low coffee tables with nowhere to put your feet because there are very low horizontal bars with another glass shelf connecting all the table legs. This is not an issue when you’re relaxing and enjoying a cocktail but it means you can’t really eat without spreading your legs, leaning way over your plate, or leaving a wide gap between table and mouth….we were feeling sorry for the cleaning staff after our first meal! Staff were very friendly. All in all, we loved our time at 100 Princes Street, and we would highly recommend this property even without a gym. ;)
