Expected more than dingy basement room next to the public toilet for our money….
We paid a lot of money for this room and on arrival were led down a dingy basement stair to a room with a view of a below-stairs wall. It was opposite the public hotel toilet do every time someone went in that our door rattled loudly. The rooms on the website looked so much nicer. Bathroom nicely finished but very cramped - toilet squashed up against bath. Couldn’t leave fast enough in the morning! We have stayed in much nicer boutique hotels in other expensive cities (like York) for less money. If you are booking here, check what you are getting!! We know Edinburgh is expensive but expected much nicer than this for what we paid. Very disappointed.

Lovely boutique hotel with helpful staff
We stayed at this hotel at the beginning and end of our trip. Stephan was very helpful and the rooms are very nice. Great location to walk everywhere we wanted to go.

10/10 stay
I had the pleasure of staying at Nira Caledonia after my partner surprised me with a night away and it was absolutely wonderful. From the moment we arrived the service was warm, attentive and welcoming. Our room was immaculate, beautifully presented, spotlessly clean and so comfortable. We especially enjoyed relaxing in the jacuzzi which was a real treat and made our stay feel even more special. The following morning we ordered room service breakfast and it was excellent. We took it out to the garden and it was such a lovely, peaceful way to start the day. The hotel has a perfect balance of elegance and relaxation with everything running so smoothly thanks to the attentive team. It really did feel like a memorable treat from start to finish and we can’t wait to return.

Weekend visit
Had one of the larger rooms lovely size.Bathroom small with shower/ bath. No handles on wall to get in and out of shower, bit of a health and safety issue. Hotel in lovely position from Edinburgh centre but up hill 10 min walk,fine coming back ! Staff lovely, breakfast good choice.sadly no where to sit outside for a coffee or drink. Nice quiet area.

Back again for our annual pilgrimage to Edinburgh for the fringe. Staying at the Nira is always great especially the breakfasts. Already booked for 2026
