The hotel itself was superb, great location and close to all of the Edinburgh tourist attractions. The staff are friendly and very helpful, the restaurant and bar are busy, lively and the decor is gorgeous. However the noise from the surrounding venues was very intrusive in the room. There was a constant loud base beat throughout the evening until 1:00 - 2:00 am which made sleep impossible. I would probably not choose to stay in this hotel again due to this problem

This was one of the strangest and most disappointing customer service experiences we have ever had (especially for a hotel charging £300 per night) With the sole exceptions of EVE Restaurant and the Concierge, the general attitude of the hotel staff was that they simply DID NOT want to be there. At the coffee Chamber (fireplace area) a waitress (short brown bob hair, with tattoos) was openly dismissive and unprofessional. We ordered a double espresso; she will certainly remember the interaction. After a while she asked every surrounding table if they needed anything, while deliberately ignoring us. This was not accidental. This level of behavior is completely unacceptable for a hotel positioning itself as a premium, five-star property. If a staff member is unwilling to provide basic hospitality, they should reconsider their role (and their employees). At checkout, no one asked how our stay was, whether we needed assistance with luggage, or if we required a taxi to the airport... The only five-star aspects of this hotel are the location and the common areas. Thats more like a 3-star property, and at best would justify £75 per night, not £300. A formal complaint will be submitted to Virgin Hotels management, particularly to ensure this is not part of a broader pattern affecting other guests. For the avoidance of doubt, we are prepared to provide the reservation number and photographic evidence of the time and location of the incident, which will be included in the official complaint.

Our annual family stay at this hotel was exceptional from start to finish. From the moment we stepped through the door wheelchair included staff were attentive and so customer focused. The hotel is stunning, beautifully designed and immaculately maintained with an ideal location in the heart of the city. What set this hotel apart, for us was the staff and level of service. Every member of the team was welcoming, professional, and genuinely attentive. Nothing felt forced, the service was warm, thoughtful, especially around my Mam in a wheelchair, consistently exceeding expectations. From check-in to departure, the team made the stay feel effortless and personal. The rooms were stylish, and comfortable, with attention to detail evident throughout. Housekeeping standards were excellent, and every interaction with staff reinforced the sense that guest experience is a real priority here. This hotel delivered on every level, outstanding accommodation, exceptional staff, and first-class service. I would not hesitate to return and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Edinburgh.
