This hotel has a very classic architecture which is nice. The history behind it is very interesting and it is great to stay at a place that inspired Hitchcock among others. The staircase is definitely a highlight. Service and the reception were great. Matteo was amazing and shared great useful tips to getting to nearby beaches. The restaurant was good and service was really good. Food was just ok. Breakfast and the location were outstanding. A few points of improvement: the rooms were dimly lit, the bathtub is slippery, and a refurbishment should be considered.

The welcome we received upon entering the hotel was above and beyond. It set the tone for our entire stay. The staff was friendly and went above and beyond. The rooms were large and the bathrooms were immaculate. We truly enjoyed our stay from start to finish.

There are certainly many positive features of this hotel. During our three night stay, we had a good night’s sleep every night and enjoyed the central location and grand lobby area and pleasant door staff. As we discovered, Genoa’s old town is quite hectic, so this place was a good retreat after a day’s exploring in the city. The bedroom was made up impeccably every single day by the staff - very impressed with the standard of cleaning and attention to detail. However, some aspects of our stay certainly left things to be desired. I was particularly disappointed when, on the first evening, the man on reception refused to give me bottled water, even when I offered to pay for it. It was 10:30 at night, and supermarkets were closed, and he told me my only option was to pay for the 4euro can in the minibar in my room, as complimentary water is limited to one per day. As I had been unwell during my trip, I didn’t want to risk tap water - so I had to wake up early and go out in the heat to find a supermarket for water the following morning. Given that we’d paid in excess of €550 for a three night stay, this felt incredibly mean-spirited and unnecessarily penny pinching. The smarmy and superior receptionist appeared to take great delight in laying down the rules. We were also disappointed that hotels dot com advertised that the property had a terrace with sun loungers. Upon arrival we were swiftly informed that the terrace was for the restaurant customers only. We’d booked this hotel specifically for the outside space that was advertised, so were disappointed. Overall, this place is a good value for its charm and location, but a couple of the male receptionists adopt a smarmy and deeply discourteous insincerity, which stopped us enjoying our stay to the full.

I stayed at The Bristol Hotel for a period of three weeks, and this is the summary of my experience: The Bristol Hotel has an excellent location and architecture which should not be missed as well a nicely appointed furniture The room I was given was on the 6th floor, large and comfortable, and above all, impeccably clean . The room was a quiet one, avoiding street noise, yet not enough from the cleaning staff who had a room next to my room and whose almost daily fights among themselves necessitated my direct intervention to quiet them down, as well as to appropriate notifythe Front Desk. The staff who were in charge of the cleaning, in spite of their noise, and fights did excellent work cleaning and maintaining my room impeccable. It was nonetheless discourteous to the extent that in one incident the did not want to give me access to my bathroom claiming that they were cleaning the room and directed me to a bathroom on the floor below . The issue was brought to the attention of management which resolved the issue immediately. Apologies were given and a bottle of wine sent to my room. Regarding breakfast, the basic buffet table was good and there was also a menu for special omelettes and other items for an added price. Staff at the breakfast room are not well trained. If you ask for a coffee, the coffee cup is not “served” but “deposited” somewhere on the table. Used plates are not picked up timely and they accumulate on the table and you normally have to ask for the staff to remove them. This experience is not present across the board, yet it needs to be addressed, as much as the cleaning staff behavior, which is not commensurate with a 5 star hotel. In summary: Beautiful and excellent hotel location, with excellent staff at the Front Desk most especially Matteo. Some deserve special mentioning as they have gone beyond expectations . The same can be said for staff at the breakfast room like Eleonora and Hussein both impecable who are “stars" if compared to the rest of the staff. They were magnificent at what they do and neutralized most of the bad experiences. In summary; do I recommend this hotel? I will not do that as all people traveling have different likes and expect different outcomes , yet I sincerely think that in spite of all the issues experienced (good and bad), should I go back to Genoa, I would give the Bristol Hotel another chance as the major issue was lack of staff training based on the qualifications of the hotel (5Star)❗️………and I sincerely know that this is an issue which can be overcome with appropriate training; but in general the hotel in itself is not a bad choice. Final note: as the result of not having had A/C for two days, the hotel management gave me a credit for two nights which was appreciated for the inconvenience, giving me the impression they know where they are and deficient and that they were sorry for my unexpected experience
