Part of the Duke of Montrefeltro's former palace, Relais Ducale Hotel on the Piazza della Signoria is situated in the heart of historic Gubbio, Italy, whose medieval hilltop setting and Romanesque architecture make it one of the most charming and picturesque villages in all of Europe. Resplendent after a 1997 restoration, this lovely boutique hotel just outside Perugia today offers an intimate collection of rooms and suites that bespeak quiet luxury in their antique furnishings, private verandas, and atmosphere of stylish repose.

We really enjoyed our stay here. Gubbio is a special place and the hotel provided a memorable sunset on the 2nd floor gardens. Their little dog also provided much entertainment as he’d push his ball to me for play. Great spot for our Canadian tour group.

There are not enough words to describe this place except perfect in every way. The place and the product is one thing but it is the hospitality which is the masterpiece. We will be back. Thank you ! Dave

My husband and I stayed for two nights in a Junior Suite with a balcony while on our 3 week tour of Italy. This hotel has loads of charm and breathtaking views of the medieval city! The staff was super friendly and helpful in recommending places to eat and spots to visit. Don’t miss the funicular! The breakfast buffet was plentiful and delicious. The garden bar/restaurant is a great spot to kick back with an aperol spritz (or whatever) and relax! The town of Gubbio is beautiful and a fun escape from the usual summertime tourist madness of the more popular spots in Italy. If you’re planning a trip to Umbria, don’t overlook Gubbio and this lovely boutique hotel!

There's not too many games in town to choose from in Gubbio, and Ducale leans a little heavily on a 4 star rating which is surprising. The rooms themselves are spacious with generally good facilities. Views from various areas are great, being as high up as it is on an Umbrian Hill and boasting an interesting 'secret passage' . However, there are a lot of internal stairs and not lifts to all areas which make it increasingly difficult for anyone with poor mobility and nearly all carpets on stairs and common areas are very worn and tired looking. Staff were friendly but there seemed to be a dirty mop and bucket left visible in multiple areas that could have been avoided and gave poor impression. They need to really re-think the entrance which is overly hot, overly noisy and feels like a bar/ tourist shop. Breakfast room boasts a tank full of ill looking fish in stagnant green water which was rather unappetising but breakfast itself was "ok"and served by pleasant staff. It wouldn't take much to improve on the criticisms and to restore what must once have been a good hotel to the standards it aspires to.

We booked a room through Luxury Link at the Hotel Relais Ducale in Gubbio. The staff at this hotel was outstanding. Everyone did everything possible to assure a pleasant stay. When we arrived the Manager noted that we were from Luxury Link and personally escorted us to our room. When it came time to leave, we felt that we were leaving dear family members behind. This hotel made our trip to Italy a dream come true.

The Hotel Relais Ducale typifies all one would seek as part of an Italian vacation. Converted to a hotel from a Renaissance Palace, its rooms are unique and luxurious. Every comfort is afforded the guest, and the staff is dedicated to ensuring that your stay is memorable. Do not miss Umbria and do not miss the Hotel Relais Ducale!

In Gubbio, Italy at the Hotel Relais Ducale, our spacious room was complete with antiques and all the amenities that are part of a luxurious yet quaint hotel. The hotel staff was most accommodating yet unobtrusive. A lasting memory firmly cemented in my mind...

I recently had the joy of visiting the Relais Ducale for a 5-night stay. Everything about this extremely well-priced package was outstanding. Our charming hostess was attentive to each and every request. The driver of our all-day tour was extremely accommodating and patient. And the maitre d' at Taverna del Lupo was one of the most intelligent and clever men I have ever met. Gubbio and the Relais Ducale are not on the beaten path, and I hope that they never are. Far from the madding crowds of Firenze, but enriched with the joy of living and great food. I can't wait to return.
