Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi was first opened at the turn of the 20th century by two private French investors. Standing the test of time, the hotel has been recognized as Hanoi’s legendary landmark for its contribution to the history and heritage of city. Ever since 1901, the Hotel Metropole Hanoi has a long tradition as a luxury venue for prestigious events and a popular rendezvous for business and leisure travelers. We have the honour to welcome such famous playwrights, actors, ambassadors and heads of state from all over the world as Charlie Chaplin, Graham Greene, Somerset Maugham.

We stayed in this hotel the 3rd time, we had dinners at the French restaurant Le Beaulieu. EMI Ngoc Nga was our host for the night. She was excellent host for our table the whole night, really professional with a lot of knowledge about the food. Really recommend and definitely will come back.

We really enjoyed this hotel! Our room was comfortable and the service & amenities were great. The courtyard pool is a nice place to hang out when you need an escape from the bustle of the city outside. The hotel also has a lot of history and offers a tour, which is definitely worth doing. Their breakfast is also great. When you decide to venture out, the surrounding French Quarter is walkable and there are lots of shops and things to see.

Third stay — and absolutely the last. The decline of this hotel is staggering. What was once a property we happily returned to has now become a shadow of its former self. The breakfast offering was nothing short of appalling. We tried every option available — buffet, Le Beaulieu, and in-room dining — and all were uniformly poor, badly executed, and completely unworthy of a hotel trading on a luxury reputation. The afternoon tea included in our package was so substandard that we endured it once and refused to repeat the experience. In fact, the food offering across the hotel was so uninspiring and low quality that we chose not to eat there again at all. For a hotel that markets itself as an icon, this level of complacency is frankly embarrassing. Standards have slipped dramatically, and it feels as though management is relying on past reputation rather than present delivery. With several new luxury hotels opening in Hanoi this year, they will need to up their game significantly — because at this level, they will struggle to compete. A real disappointment and a complete waste of what should have been a special stay. We will not be returning. Next time in Hanoi, we’ll be staying at the Fairmont or the Four Seasons instead.

Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi was the cornerstone of our time in Hanoi and, quite simply, one of the most thoughtfully run hotels we’ve experienced anywhere. The rooms were comfortable, quiet, and beautifully appointed. They were a welcome sanctuary after full days exploring the city. The hotel itself is a stunning oasis, rich with history and atmosphere, yet perfectly situated for walking to major cultural and historical sites. It truly feels like a calm, elegant refuge in the middle of the city. From the weeks of email coordination before arrival through our departure, the service was consistently calm, precise, and genuinely caring. The reservations team, led by Ms. Phuong Vuong, did an excellent job coordinating our rooms in advance, giving us real peace of mind heading into a busy international trip. There was one small hiccup at check-in, and it was handled immediately and expertly by Tracy, the Front Office Manager. She resolved the issue without hesitation and went further to ensure the rest of our stay was seamless. Her leadership and professionalism clearly set the tone for the entire team. I like to think we are fairly low-maintenance travelers and did not heavily rely on butler services, but knowing that support was always there, without ever feeling overbearing, made a real difference. From bell staff to housekeeping, front desk, food and beverage, concierge, and management, the culture of care at the Metropole is unmistakable. You feel seen, heard, and genuinely looked after. On the concierge side, we had wonderful interactions with Ms. Trinh Nguyen, Ms. Mai Tran, Ms. Hien Hoang, and Mr. Viet Dinh. Once on property, Charlie (Mr. Viet), Hazel, Tuan, and Hui were all exceptional. Attentive without being intrusive, deeply knowledgeable about the city, and incredibly helpful in shaping both hotel-organized activities and our own self-guided exploration of Hanoi. The hotel-organized Ninh Binh / Tam Coc excursion was excellent, and when we experienced a medical issue in a remote village during one excursion, the concierge team stayed in continuous contact with us and the tour provider to ensure we were fully supported. The care and follow-through in that situation were extraordinary. Breakfast also deserves special mention. The breadth and quality were remarkable. Outstanding American, French, and Vietnamese options, fresh fruit, pastries, and warm service made each morning a highlight. Although we had Club Lounge access, the main breakfast service was so exceptional that we chose it every morning. Bao, in particular, elevated the experience and was fantastic each and every morning. We also had wonderful meals at the Bamboo Bar, where the food was genuinely international and consistently excellent across cuisines. The value here is exactly what you hope for at this level. The service execution fully matches the cost. More importantly, the hotel allows you to focus on experiencing Hanoi itself rather than thinking about logistics. In short, Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi delivers uncompromising service, warmth, and competence. With Tracy’s team at your service and exceptional experience at nearly every turn, it is an ideal base for anyone who wants to experience Hanoi with confidence, comfort, and care. We will return without hesitation.

During my recent trip back to Hanoi and staying at the Metropole hotel. I have nothing to complain about, simply because it was TOO PERFECT to complain except for one minor issue: The New York Times newspapers. A couple of years back, the hotel had printed newspapers like NYT and WSJ but not anymore after the Covid as I learnt that you've shifted to PressReader but unfortunately it does not carry the NYT. Surprisingly, the neighbouring hotel Capella is also using the PressReader and it has the NYT, a pity that Metropole is missing this.
