We stayed at Island Shangri-La during Chinese New Year and honestly, I wouldn’t recommend Hong Kong during that time. It’s crowded, hectic, and not the easiest with kids. But I will say this; I would come back to this hotel any time of the year, without hesitation. If you’re traveling with kids, the Family Room experience is absolutely worth it. But what really makes this place special isn’t just the room or the facilities; it’s the people. As a parent, sometimes you make a big effort financially to give your kids a special experience, and you wonder if it will truly be worth it. Or you worry that if you’re not in the “top tier,” you’ll be treated differently. Here, that simply doesn’t happen. Every guest is treated with the same level of care, respect, and attention; like you truly belong. There were so many small, genuine moments that made a difference. The way the staff spoke to our daughters, the little surprises, the warmth that never felt forced. At one point, my daughter was given a Bluey balloon just for her (her favorite character even though Bluey is not even in streaming platforms in HK) and that tiny gesture became one of her favorite memories of the trip. We also stayed at the Disney Hong Kong Hotel and while it’s fine (its still Disney) for the theme and location, the level of human warmth and genuine care at the Island Shangri-La is on a completely different level. A very special thank you to Gigi! she went above and beyond for us, even on her day off. Without her, our experience would not have been the same. So yes; maybe avoid Hong Kong during Chinese New Year. But Island Shangri-La? I would recommend it, anytime.

This hotel is a home away from home. The staff are very helpful and friendly. The room is spacious and very clean. The food at the Horizon Lounge are very good with lots of choices. The location is very convenient as it is above the Pacific Place.

We had a wonderful stay at the Island Shangri-La, Hong Kong with our two young kids. The hotel is very family-friendly and the family floor was a big highlight for our daughter. The service was excellent throughout our stay. Everyone was incredibly warm and attentive, and Joy, Ella and Cathy in particular made us feel very welcome. The location is also great for families. Hong Kong Park is right across the street and our kids loved seeing all the turtles there. Overall a fantastic stay and we would gladly return on our next visit to Hong Kong.

We recently celebrated our daughter’s 3rd birthday at the Shangri-La Hotel in Hong Kong, and it was truly unforgettable. We arrived on an early morning flight, traveling with a newly turned three-year-old, and Joy Drilon kindly arranged for us to access our room early so we could rest. That gesture alone meant so much to our family. On my daughter’s birthday, Joy went above and beyond. She prepared a beautiful birthday cake featuring my daughter’s favorite princess, Elsa, along with Elsa balloons, a lovely Shangri-La teddy bear Tony and Chef Sam, and even a framed family photo to commemorate the occasion. Every detail was thoughtful and heartfelt. Seeing the joy on my daughter’s face made the entire experience priceless. We are deeply grateful for the warmth, care, and genuine hospitality shown to our family. Thank you for making her 3rd birthday so magical and memorable. If you are traveling with children, I would highly recommend staying on the 45th floor at Island Shangri-La, Hong Kong. The experience felt especially thoughtful and family-friendly, making our daughter’s birthday celebration even more special.

My room wasn’t ready when I arrived at 2pm, despite my Amex booking guaranting a 12pm check-in. -I had to wait an hour until the standard check-in time and there wasn’t enough seating, so I had to sit at a chair in the elevator area. -The porter service was underwhelming. No one guided me to check-in at arrival and I had to ask them to take my luggage. No one even held the door open. Most of them were just standing. -While I was sitting in a chair in front of an elevator, the attendant kept vaccuming and the wires hit my foot. -The receptionist service was underwhelming, I expected more. I had to move to another desk and the entire experience was confusing -At around 2.40pm, I received a call telling me my room is ready. But the tone of the call was inpatient and impolite. -The room was the biggest dissappointment. It was barely cleaned, bed barely made up and had a strong smell of mold, despite being newly renovated. The view was awful. It was neither harbour view nor mountain but looked out to an office building. It was also on a low floor but I had specifically asked for a high floor. There was a dehumidifier running at full speed, the lights were all dim when I entered for some reason. The room was very cold. This was awful especially since I was very tired getting here. -I called Amex and asked them to get involved. Later, the hotel called and said they have a harbour view room for me on a higher floor but it won’t be ready until 5/6pm. -The new room was exactly the same, but had better views and no smell -The food from in room dining was decent but expensive -The only thing about the room that I liked was the shower and bathtub space and the marble used at the entrance. Otherwise I would prefer the non renovated rooms with their classic chandeliers. The new design made the rooms smaller -The new Johns Masters toiletries were inferior to the old ones -When I left the porter was slow to get my taxi’s doors
