Nowhere else but The Modern Honolulu can you find such a dynamic combination of laid-back beach life and cosmopolitan excitement. It’s two minutes from the beach – including prime surf spots where locals flock – and walking distance to downtown Honolulu’s galleries and luxury shopping scene. Explore Honolulu’s bars and street food (don’t miss the roadside shrimp trucks), but don’t stray far from the hotel – Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto’s fine dining concept constantly wins Hawaii’s top accolades, and at night, celeb DJs turn Addiction into a club straight out of South Beach.

We had an amazing stay with Hilton Vacation Club. We emailed the hotel directly and requested a quiet room on the top floor, which was no problem for them at all. They were even kind enough to send me a detailed email of the resort fees and parking for our full stay before arrival so we could budget it into our plans. Room service was outstanding. We arrived back one afternoon to a towel design and birthday card for my husband from housekeeping. They honestly went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. The only issue we had was that they didn't offer military discount on parking or resort fees, which most other hotels do, but that is minor compared to the great holiday we had. We highly recommend this hotel and will definitely be back. Walking to the seafront to watch the sunrise was our favourite thing to do early morning as our body clocks wouldn't let us sleep past 4am. Having breakfast at Denny's was awesome straight after. We thoroughly enjoyed talking to the staff there, so friendly. We booked our tours online for Kualoa Ranch ATV and horse riding as it works out cheaper than booking through the hotel, but they are there if needed and extremely helpful. We also found the most delectable food at Haleiwa Joe's, a definite must visit, although on the north shore, but you'll thank me later. Please remember to have respect when you visit this beautiful island and give back to the people. Tip tip TIP, even room service. Trust me; they appreciate it more than you realise, but leave a note to tell them it's for them or they won't take it, I made that mistake the first day. But that shows their integrity. We bought from food stalls, mostly fresh fruits, because these people are trying to make a living, so please support them. There is parking outside the hotel, by the harbour, which is $1 per hour, but do not under any circumstances park on the red line. We didn't know this as the parking sign was by the red line and no other signs saying we couldn't park there and got towed 😆. If you have leftover food, take a doggy bag and give it to the homeless. I mean, why waste, right 🤷♀️. We loved our time in Hawaii and will be seeing them again soon. Thank you, Hilton 😘

I did a staycation for my birthday weekend here at The Modern, and it was such a memorable experience! Joanne was very accommodating with my request prior to arrival, which made me feel welcomed even before I got there. I was checked in by John, who was very friendly and pleasant, he made sure I had all the information I needed for my stay. What made it even more special was the surprise waiting in my room. A big thank you to Marietta in housekeeping for the adorable towel art, it was such a sweet and thoughtful touch. She’s incredibly talented, and it really made my day! All the other staff members I encountered were very kind as well. The pool was always relaxing, and my friends and I had such a great time. Thank you to everyone at The Modern for making my birthday weekend extra special!

The service sucks. I brought a little bottle of champagne from my room to the pool and was told to put it away. Some 60 year old ladies brought a big bottle of disarono and they ignored it. Only one girl we licked who served us at the drinks, she was very nice. Our balcony door wouldn’t close all the way and made so much noise trying to open it. Housekeepingleft a few cups out for a few days instead of trashing it but they do a good job cleaning. Food is good. Location is good.

This was a disappointment. The mattress laid flat on a wood support. There was no box spring, so the height was super low. Worse, the wood support stuck our 4" beyond the mattress on all 3 sides. In a half an hour, twice my wife caught her ankle on the wood corners, and I already had previously warned her about that possibility. I have never seen anything like this before in all the years traveling. With a Hilton name and associated price, I found this inexcusable.

So this is the second time I’ve stayed here and found HUGE roaches in the room. I just can’t stay here again. I bought sticky traps the second time and caught a couple, but still saw one running across the TV stand one night and another running across the floor. And these guys are big. The first time I saw one moving across the floor, I thought it was a mouse it was so big. Rooms were cool at point in time, but now it’s fairly run down and the carpets are stained. Staff is nice. Views in the front rooms are lovely. It’s a short walk to the beach in front of the Hilton.
