Nowhere else but The Modern Honolulu can you find such a dynamic combination of laid-back beach life and cosmopolitan excitement. It’s two minutes from the beach – including prime surf spots where locals flock – and walking distance to downtown Honolulu’s galleries and luxury shopping scene. Explore Honolulu’s bars and street food (don’t miss the roadside shrimp trucks), but don’t stray far from the hotel – Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto’s fine dining concept constantly wins Hawaii’s top accolades, and at night, celeb DJs turn Addiction into a club straight out of South Beach.

The Hilton Vacation Club - The Modern Honolulu was very conveniently located in Waikiki within walking distance of the Hilton Lagoon, restaurants, an ABC superstore, the local park & the harbor. We were about a block from the water. We arrived early (our flight got in around 11am), we planned to check in, leave our luggage and return when our room was ready - thankfully our room was ready when we arrived. Communication with the hotel prior to our stay was excellent; traveling for my boyfriends birthday, a family member wanted to ship a gift to be at the hotel when we arrived, and they were able to accommodate this. The package arrived the night before we did and the hotel had this delivered to our room upon us checking in. The concierge stopped us on our way to our room and offered us event planning and waters for our room, offered to set us up for events or local luau. We had many events already booked & planned however finding out we were here celebrating my boyfriend on his birthday the concierge set us up with tickets to 'Auana by Cirque de Soile, which was an incredible show. We had a corner room with a large balcony that we enjoyed eating meals on or enjoying the warm Hawaii Rain. There was plenty of natural light in the room. The room was equipped with a coffee maker, microwave, mini fridge & TV. TV guides were kind of strange as there were 3 separate channels for guides, not that we were here to watch TV. The bed was decent, but not the most comfortable. The bathroom was well cleaned but had a heavy bleach smell upon arrival. Housekeeping was great and would come in daily and make our beds, replace or add towels & empty the garbage. The hotel had some pretty cool artwork in the lobby including a wall made of surfboard pieces. We didn't utilize the pool, we were thinking about eating breakfast at the Grove Restaurant, but they were closed when we went up there. There was a wonderful smell of Plumerias when you would enter the lobby which was a nice touch. Parking is $40/day - we only parked in the garage 2 days and we had to have the hotel adjust post stay as they charged us for every night rather than just the 2 days we had told them at check in. The gentleman at the front desk helped issue a refund for the additional days we were charged for parking. Overall, we had a wonderful stay and would stay here again in the future.

on the plus side, staff is amazing! The rest is ALL the way budget. Restaurant food is giving cafeteria food, Bar is over priced & terrible drinks @ $20 a piece. 3. false emergency alarms in one week going down 10 flights of stairs w/ no compensation for inconvenience. Beds are barely acceptable & bedding is so basic. Lovely people but would not return. Everything has been very expensive food wise nearby & not great. definitely would not return. I got what I paid for. Lesson learned.

The hotel is ok. Not great, not terrible. I found the room to be adequate but starting to show its age. The balcony chairs were rusted which wasnt nice. My biggest issue was noise, especially from one of the elevators. I took off 1 star specifically because of the elevator noise. I was even a few rooms away on the other side of the hotel as the elevator and I could hear it running inside my room. Very frustrating. I hope they fix it.

Disappointed to say the least, hair in the shower drain, hair around the sink-not ours! No real restaurant in the hotel-more like pub grub. Breakfast was buffet, overpriced and not good at all, went once and never went back. Tried to book my wife an appointment for a spa treatment, spa permanently closed, they just never took down the signs. We stayed on the sixth floor, just seems like Hilton put a thick coat of paint on an old Hotel.

The hotel itself is OK. No frills but clean and comfortable. EXCEPT it has the noisiest elevators I’ve ever encountered ever. We were at least 6 rooms away from the elevator and heard it stop on every single floor, over and over and over again. They shut down the noisiest one at around 11pm, but it starts up again early in the morning. Hearing it is like torture, and you can’t not hear it. We lasted one night.
