My wife and I chose the Thompson Hotel because it was part of American Express Fine Hotels & Resorts, offered a good rate, and looked stylish online. We arrived excited for a higher-end stay, but the experience fell well short of the luxury standards the hotel appears to market. While the property itself is modern and attractive, the service and operations were consistently subpar. Staff often seemed unmotivated and unresponsive, which made even simple requests frustrating. Housekeeping was particularly poor: empty glasses sat in the hallway for days, wet towels at the pool weren’t replaced nightly, and general maintenance felt neglected. The rooftop pool area was the biggest letdown. There are no trash cans on the patio itself—only inside the bathrooms—so guests are expected to carry food wrappers, diapers, or other trash across the deck and through the building. Towels also aren't stocked by the pool, instead requiring guests to find an attendant - which were often hiding out in the men's restroom - to acquire pool towels. Combined with the strong winds at the rooftop pool, the area quickly becomes littered with debris in the bushes and along the fences. It’s an easily fixable design flaw that ruins the experience for everyone. We also noticed the pool deck frequently turned into an impromptu photo studio for young women shooting suggestive photos of themselves, presumably for their OnlyFans pages. It reinforced the feeling that the hotel prioritizes Instagram aesthetics over actual guest comfort and quality service. Overall, this was not the elevated experience we expected from a Fine Hotels & Resorts property. I would not recommend the Thompson Hotel Houston and will not be returning.

Another great stay at the Thompson. And the concierge Parker did an excellent job of decorating and preparing the room for my husband’s birthday celebration. Highly recommend this hotel for a staycation. Resort vibes within the city limits.

We booked one night (as a stopover on our way out of the country) on the recommendation of a Houston-based restauranteur friend and would be hard-pressed to stay anywhere else on our next visit to this vibrant city! The property is beautifully appointed, very chic. We had two adjoining rooms (the second for our children, ages 8 & 12, for which we got a fabulous rate after learning about their family discount from the very helpful booking agent) and they were both sleekly furnished and immaculately maintained. The service was stellar...even ten days *after* our stay, when I got in touch with Lost & Found upon realizing my son had left his favorite baseball cap there. Special shout-out to Jason in Security, who tracked it down and returned it to me lickety-split (and was especially lovely on the phone). We didn't get to do much exploring, given the brevity of our visit, but our terrific experience with the Thompson is reason enough to plan another!

This is an amazing hotel in Houston, Texas. I love the location here, right next to a nearby park where you can walk and enjoy the city views. The hotel has a large panoramic pool, but I don’t swim because it’s winter anyway. I still enjoy it. The rooms are nice, and the service is great.

My son and I and two children stayed one night at The Thompson in Houston on March 14 2026. As we approached The Thompson, Andre , a parking attendant made us feel welcome right away. At the front desk Alex and Yolanda, helped us tag and store the luggage for a short time because the room was being prepared for us. It was ready in a short time. After settling in our room we decided to have a snack in the beautiful French restaurant called Chardon. We were delighted by the Happy Hour prices on the food and beverages. The bread was freshly made. The chips and deviled eggs and other items were delicious. The staff was very accommodating and even brought an extra small bed for one of the children. The next morning we had breakfast room service delivered and set up by Asia! She was very polite and helpful. A beautiful experience at this Thompson location in Houston.
