Reviews for The Ritz-Carlton Bacara, Santa Barbara

Unless u wanna smelllike burgers and cooking oil, AVOID VILLA 18. ESP RM 204.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

Stayed 2 nights in early June for our 15th anniversary. Our room (villa 18, room 204) was great…UNTIL we opened the balcony door and it smelled like we stepped into McDonalds.actually it was much worse. The balcony is RIGHT above the kitchen vents for The Bistro. Although they close after lunch, the kitchen was open til 9p, so even at midnight the smell of fried foods was present. I called the front desk about 20min after getting to the room after realizing we wouldn’t b able to use the balcony bc of the smell. They told us “no other room was available” except for one floor directly below in the same villa (no sense moving as that just put us closer to the vent). Let me tell u…it was the middle of the week and temps were in the 50s. The resort was NOT full. We barely saw anyone there. I know there were lots of open rooms. So, we paid extra for a room with a balcony and didn’t use it bc of the grease smell. The room manager could easily have moved us and didn’t. How disappointing. Secondly, I am 100% sure we are not the first to have this issue in that room bc the smell was soooo strong. So, WHY dont u try to divert the vents? Why act as if it’s a new issue? Move me to a different room…. Sigh….

Huge!! And amazing staff!

This was the best hotel ever!!!!!! The service was very kind and helpful!!!!! The rooms were spacious. The view was good but was blocked by the other buildings. The property was beautiful and huge with even a private (only for the people in the Ritz) hiking area. The experience was amazing. I strongly recommend!!

really bad security and service

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

I was at this property in May 2024, and when I checked in they first gave me a room that was already occupied. When I opened the door to the room someone else's luggage was in the room and the guest was clearly in the bathroom. I quickly went back to check in and got another room given to me but I was super uncomfortable thinking that someone could be given the room I was in too. Then in the 2nd room, womens' underclothing was in the drawers from a previous guest. Not mine. Security came to take this underclothing away. I would chalk this up to sloppy housekeeping, and also unsettling! I would find all of this odd for any hotel but a Ritz Carlton should be better run!!!!!

Ritz-Carlton Santa Barbara- what a huge and expensive let down

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Similar to Melodie H's review from May 2024; I also booked 3 rooms for one night through the American Express Fine hotel program and spent thousands of dollars at this location to attend a wedding in November 2023. Upon arriving back late from the wedding; the shutters in my room and the window would not close. Evidently when checking in the room, I did not notice the window would not close and the shutters would not close all the way because I had to immediately take off to go to the wedding a few minutes after checking in. Since the window was broken (stuck) and would not/ could not close; it was freezing in the room by the time I returned. And because the shutters couldn't close properly, anyone could look right into my room and bugs (spiders!) could crawl in too; which was very uncomfortable. The technician that came to repair or tried to repair was very nice though. What was a real sour note was the blatant lack of concern over this issue and other billing issues. This caused me to readily conclude that this was my 1st and last stay at this property. Definitely not what I've come to expect as a lifetime Platinum Marriott Bonvoy member for many years. As mentioned previously, I had booked these rooms through the Amex Fine Hotel program, where breakfast is included. They had trouble taking off the charge for breakfast and quite a number of other items. I travel a lot and spend a considerable amount of money when I travel which I don't mind because good service is worth it. Good service here is sorely lacking but flippant attitudes and incompetency abound. Spent way too much time and received way too much attitude associated with trying to fix these issues. When Marriott sent me a follow-up survey, I sent my concerns to the GM who totally ignored and never acknowledged or addressed my concerns and feedback. Advice: Spend your well-earned money at much better properties in the area. And keep your dignity too. There were some nice people at check-in but the overall sentiment is that a lot of the front office staff and those I dealt with trying to remedy this billing problem have this odd elitist attitude. Which is ridiculous. You are working in your secular employment at the Ritz like the rest of us who are blessed enough to be working in our respective places of employment. You have a job at this property because we, the travelers are paying to stay at this property. It would be most pleasant to have your guests who are spending their hard-earned money to stay here, to feel welcomed. You are in the hospitality industry...please act like it. And when things don't go right which sometimes they don't; please fix it with respect and politeness. Otherwise these not so happy reviews on the poor quality of service at this particular location will continue.... People spend their money where their money is welcome and do not return when they (we) feel otherwise.

Great experience as a guest of a guest

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

We visited our friends for the day here. So pleasant to be able to come as a guest of guest and have such a fun and hassle-free day with friends. Super helpful and positive staff, family friendly pool, and awesome beach access. They charged our car up so we could drive home to LA without stopping.
