Ace Hotel Kyoto lives in a part new build and part historic structure that was once home to a beloved landmark telephone company, designed in partnership with our longtime friends Commune Design and the legendary architect Kengo Kuma. Our first hotel in Asia, Ace Hotel Kyoto lives in the cultural epicenter of Japan, a place revered for its abundance of art, craft and nature.

We are Ace Hotel fans and chose the Ace for our Kyoto stay because of its central location, which is fantastic, and super walkable to so muck that Kyoto has to offer. I will echo another reviewer who felt that the staff and hotel felt almost a bit too hip when we arrived, (it felt like we had just landed into a brand), and we were a bit disappointed by the Kyoto x California vibe (we are Californians). It just was not what we were expecting. However, our perception changed after our first 24 hours at the hotel. The more we interacted with the staff, the friendlier they became, and we accepted the CA-vibe as part of the experience. The rooms are Ace-stylish, super clean, quiet, and spacious with a record player - thank you! The beds are a bit firm and low but we slept very well. Mr. Maurice's was a surprisingly delicious restaurant, especially the Caesar Salad which we had to have a couple of times. Shout-out to Mamo for great suggestions, conversation, warmth and kindness. He was the one who began to shift our perception of the Ace from unsure to positive. Breakfast from Stumptown and at Kosa was excellent, and we are grateful to the kind host who fit us late-risers in before close of service. After four nights at the Ace Kyoto, we were so glad we chose to stay there, so much so, we are planning to return and will stay there again.

The best hotel in Kyoto, Japan, and maybe anywhere else. The Staff are friendly and very helpful, the vibe and decor is amazing, rooms are clean, and the stay is exceeds expectations every time. You will feel like home while you are there and you will miss staying there for week following your departure. I cannot recommend this hotel any more! The only hotel I will stay in Kyoto!

This hotel fills all the checkboxes and more. Starting us off, we were put on the 7th floor with a great view overlooking the city. The room was great with so many tiny curated details. We were greeted by a bottle of wine and some treats, which was a really nice touch. Dinner at Kosa was more on the western side (and was delicious), but if you're hoping for something that leans more Japanese, I don't think this is what you're looking for. The included daily breakfast, however, was perfect and used the same beautiful dining room as Kosa. We also arranged a luggage transfer service from Kyoto to Osaka, and the hotel handled our luggage seamlessly. Super convenient and allowed more time for exploring! Nishiki Market and Kawaramachi shopping is just minutes away (although I think this made our realize we are more a fan of traditional Kyoto). And the only minor snag we hit was that the bathroom sink was clogged and very slow to drain the 1st night, but it was resolved after the room was cleaned on our 2nd day. Other than that, an amazing stay!

Absolutely excellent stay at the wonderful Ace Hotel Kyoto. Location is perfect, rooms are very comfortable and well-equipped, and staff is just amazing. The team went above and beyond to make sure my time in Kyoto was perfect. I can’t wait to return the next time I’m in Kyoto. Pro-tip: check out the amazing “omiyage” shop in the lobby reception area. Some super cool collaboration items, include excellent made in Japan options.

Friendly staff at check in. Was very good at following up to confirm destination hotel as we forwarded our luggage. There is no concierge desk but the people at the lobby were helpful. Good size room. Decent toiletries. Convenient to the subway and convenience stores. Short walk to shopping area. Not enough seats in the lobby. It was always full. Not sure if they were all hotel guests as appears to be more locals using it. Felt like a Starbucks.
