Ace Hotel Kyoto lives in a part new build and part historic structure that was once home to a beloved landmark telephone company, designed in partnership with our longtime friends Commune Design and the legendary architect Kengo Kuma. Our first hotel in Asia, Ace Hotel Kyoto lives in the cultural epicenter of Japan, a place revered for its abundance of art, craft and nature.

Our stay at the Ace Hotel Kyoto was nothing short of fantastic. The location is unbeatable—just a short, easy walk to an incredible range of restaurants and street shopping, with transit only two minutes away. Getting around couldn’t have been more convenient, with taxis and Ubers arriving within minutes whenever we needed them. The hotel itself has a real sense of personality, blending style and comfort in a way that feels both unique and welcoming. It also offers a great selection of on-site dining options, so you’re never short of excellent food choices. Overall, it was a wonderful experience from start to finish. If I return to Kyoto, there’s absolutely no question—I would stay at the Ace Hotel again.

We really liked this hotel, especially for the price per night. Very good value here. The room was huge, and we had a really nice balcony. The food at the restaurants was really good. The location was solid, and the staff was helpful. A good tip is that if you don't place the 'now' sign on your door, your room may not get cleaned. We felt 'now' was a bit blunt, but I guess it's how the cleaning team knows to do your room that day. Breakfast at the steak house was really quite good, and although pricey, they had the most amazing smoothies. Pros - - We ate at all three restaurants, and all were really good, with the taco place being the best, but the steak place was pricey, but very good - The location was great, and we were within walking distance (30 mins) to several attractions/tourist areas, including Gion and Pontocho - Rooms are bigger and very clean, well decorated. The vinyl record player was very cool. - The decor and layout of the hotel were very modern and well done; it felt like a really fun hipster vibe with an indoor mall right beside it - They give you a fun map of the city, including some options for food, drinks, shopping, etc., which was super handy - The staff were friendly, even if they couldn't help, they tried their best, and we found the hotel to be welcoming. Cons - - The restaurants had weird hours, and I wish the hotel would let guests know if they will be closed. Twice, the taco place was closed for lunch and once for dinner due to a private party, but there is no way to know this until you try to go. The taco place is clearly very busy but has limited hours, while the Italian place was open a lot but dead, with no one inside. - Mostly young staff, and not much help with any nuanced questions. We asked about a place to eat, and they had no recommendations, just took out Google to show us what was closest (they did give out a map, though, see above comment)

I can't say enough wonderful things about this hotel. They were very conscientious in everything they did. We were able to forward our luggage directly to the airport which made the trip from Kyoto to Narita so easy. The restaurants were delicious and served amazing food. Hirotake - san - one of the managers was able to make some calls and find our luggage that we had forwarded from another hotel using Yamato. The location was also top notch and even had an entrance to the nearest subway station directly from the hotel. Also there were plenty of restaurants within walking distance. We got there too early to check-in, so they held our luggage and we walked to Nijo Castle and Nishiki market.

Ace is both classy and cozy at the same time, very friendly staff at check in as well as in the hotel restaurants. The rooms are comfortable, spacious, and have great lighting. The neighborhood in Kyoto is also wonderful.
