Reviews for Aman Kyoto

Worst Aman Ever

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 months ago

This is 5000USD per night hotel but you have got is just 500USD hotel level. Hotel Charge a lot but did not prepare anything to make guest feels home as they always said. I really don't understand why Aman Kyoto is so expensive. Location is not good at all. The room is ok , but a bit small. The Main dining room is very small. 90% are trees. So there is no common space to enjoy. No gym No pool. It was boring staying here. So I would give a 3-4 stars if the price is like 1000USD , but this is way far overprice. This is my 16th Aman so I think I know how Aman is. I think the properties looks deserted , unlively , nothing to enjoy. Welcome and Farewell part is also disappointed. Service is ok , Standard but not exceptional. Food is ok but should be better. Finally , I encourage GM or Staffs to go other Aman all around the world to see How standard Aman is. I have to say you are ruin Aman brand.

Beautiful setting but wildly overpriced

I'll preface this by saying I'm a big fan of the Aman resorts generally, and don't mind paying up for the best hotels if they actually provide an experience worth the price - but Aman Kyoto falls so far short that there's really no way to come close to justifying it. $4,000+ per night, for a hotel that has no gym, no pool, a very small and limited spa, in a not particularly convenient location, is just absurd. I think it's a shame that the Aman is pricing this place at such an absurd rate. On top of that, I should add that there's actually a pretty big difference between staying in the various buildings on the property, which is not really apparent on the website. I was initially booked in a Susuki room, which I was pretty shocked to find felt not only slightly subterranean (as you take a flight of steps down from ground level), but even worse could actually see a street and passing cars through some thin plantings the hotel has tried to place to offer some privacy. That's just absurd for a hotel at this rate, and it is really a joke that the hotel thinks it's reasonable not to price these rooms substantially lower than the rest of the property. To the hotel's credit, they moved me to a better room at no extra charge, if not for which I would rate it 2 stars. The forest setting in the hotel is quite beautiful and atmospheric (though quite dark, so it can be a matter of taste - some friends of mine who visited shortly after me didn't like the setting either), but sadly the rest of the hotel just doesn't meet the standards of many of the other Amans I've been to. I wouldn't return.

Overpriced

Nice hotel in quiet forest setting. Unfortunately highly overpriced. Prices of up to 5000 USD per night not justified. No gym, no pool, mediocre excursion programs, ok but not great breakfast. All in all a disappointing experience. We have stayed at multiple Amans before but were very disappointed by this one.

Nice environment and good service

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed January 21, 2023

This is the second hotel I stayed in Kyoto. Before going to Aman, I read some of posts here that the service was bad. I then quite regret to make a room reservation though I was impressed by the photos and posts from website. Besides, I had a bad first impression toward Aman Kyoto as they replied email for at least 3 days. This is not acceptable for such hotel with high room rate. When I arrived the hotel for the first day, I was quite surprised by the service. The hotel staff load my luggages from taxi efficiently and sent them to rooms directly. Then I was guided by another staff for check-in. She served me and my child a cup of green tea. This green tea is very special. Its taste is green tea but has a floral smell. My kid and I were very impressed. Unfortunately, I forgot to buy one before leaving. Then we went to Living Pavilion to have lunch. After lunch, our room was ready and a staff took us to the room and introduced us the facilities. The room is spacious, even the bathroom. We stayed in room 楢 . It is near the Living Pavilion, hotel’s restaurant. It is quite quiet. For our staying of two nights, we almost had dinner in room. The Udon noodle tastes good. My son ate it in lunch time and two dinner time. The hotel also provides welcome desserts for every night. First night is dried persimmon and the second night is chocolates. The chocolates are very very yummy. I tried the spa massage for two times. It is really good. As only me and my son in this trip, he couldn’t use the complimentary onsen. I then paid for a private onsen. It is very comfortable. The room’s pillows are very hard. My kid and I didn’t have a good sleep. We asked the front desk to give us a softer one for second night. It still doesn’t fit for me. Thus I didn’t sleep well during my stay. The breakfast had three choices: Western, Japanese and wellness. We tried western and Japanese breakfast. Both are delicious. Especially French toast in western style and porridge in Japanese style. The taste is unforgettable. The hotel environment is very comfortable. It is far away from the city. Only trees and grass around us. Everywhere has fresh air. It refreshes me. If the bed and pillow fit me, it will be perfect. We also had lunch in Tak-An restaurant. The food is good. The staffs are very nice and kids-friendly. They are very tolerant to kids. The check-out process is also very smooth. Everything is well-prepared, even our luggages. We booked a transportation to the Kansai Airport through the hotel. The driver is nice.

Almost relaxing and satisfied

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed December 22, 2022

What i love here: - Location. Is peaceful , by the mountain . - Landscape simple natural. Nothing special, but relaxing - Room is nicely decorated, good quality material, amenities, skin care set . - main Restaurant is nice , delicious and cozy What make me disappointed: - Small SPA AND VIEW from the spa . Its not about size, it’s about managing space and view .. Relaxing area for tea after Spa not relaxing and too small - I really missed some chair or something to stop, seat during the walk in the park and enjoy .. because only one place where you can get tea or snacks is the main restaurant .. i saw you have few pavilions on the hill for the rooms , why there cannot be Spa? Because view from the rooms to be honest almost the same . - Need more trees to cover public road for the cars.. its make us feel that we still not in deep forest as you advertised. Its also not very private
