Hyatt Regency Kyoto

Disappointing and overpriced stay at Hyatt Regency Kyoto – far closer to a rundown 3-star than a luxury hotel. The burger arrived with raw bacon, a clear food safety failure. Breakfast service was excruciatingly slow; drinks and the bill took forever despite repeated requests. None of the promised booking benefits – daily breakfast or the 10,000 yen dining credit – were applied, even after multiple unanswered emails to greedy, unresponsive management. The advertised Maiko performance never occurred. The “garden view” is nothing more than distant trees visible behind a window – guests cannot enter or enjoy it. Ongoing construction noise plagued the stay. Rooms were dirty and dusty, staff consistently rude, more interested in chatting with each other than assisting guests. I was overcharged for laundry and, despite accommodating their error by moving rooms mid-stay, received zero goodwill in return. Recent one-star reviews echo these issues. Skip this poorly managed property and choose somewhere truly worthy in Kyoto.

Very clean, crisp design. Staff was welcoming, friendly , helpful and professional. The rooms are clean and nice. The food is well presented and tasty in the 2 restaurants we tried on site. The location was great, nice walk around, easy cab to all locations (Kyoto station) centrally located.

Truly the worst experience at an Asian full service hotel that I have stayed at in the last year. Normally, the experience at hotels in Asia are wonderful with no request too large and willingness to move heaven and earth. Not at the Hyatt Regency in Kyoto. Zero Globalist recognition, with no upgrades, no separate check in despite very long lines, and did not honor guaranteed late check out. When I asked about an upgrade and mentioned that I was a Globalist, the front desk receptionist scoffed and said "I know." That was the beginning of the issues. What really made this stay horrible is that the heater was incredibly loud and kept me up all night because I either had to turn it off and freeze, or listen to it rumble and slowly heat up the room. Reviews claim that the room is large by Japan standards. This is false. The room was not large at all relative to the room where I am currently staying. I reached out to the front desk earlier today and have not heard anything back. A shame because Kyoto is such a beautiful city. I ended up deciding to skimp since it was just me when I should have paid for a better experience at the Ritz, Four Seasons, or the Six Senses I did see the Maiko performance that is on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. That was cool, but lasted all of 5 minutes.

快適でものすごく過ごしやすかったです。0歳の子どもがいて、チェックアウト後に授乳がしたかったのですが、聞くと空いている部屋を貸していただき、流石の対応だなと感度しました。素晴らしかったです^ ^

Our visit was timed to catch the fall colors and it was spectacular! The Hyatt Regency Kyoto was a luxurious base for our time in Kyoto. Staff were all very welcoming and helpful and the quality of the food program was excellent.
