The Athenaeum Hotel & Residences

I’ve stayed here at least 5-6 times over the years and was excited to return to celebrate a milestone birthday. We booked 4 nights but left after 2 as the noise was unbearable. Here are the key issues: 1. The construction on the 10th floor created significant noise disruption even though our room was on the 7th Floor. Power drilling INTO CONCRETE began around 8:00 a.m. each morning and continued intermittently until 10:00 a.m., after which it became continuous all day. The early and sustained noise materially affected our ability to rest and enjoy the mornings. We left the hotel each morning with a headache and frustration, and were wary of coming back to more drilling. 2. The phone in our room was never operational. I reported this issue to the Front Desk several times during our stay but it was never repaired. As a result, each morning I had to personally go downstairs to order room service breakfast once we were ready for it which was very inconvenient. (We did not want to do a "breakfast card" and be locked into breakfast at a specific time.) 3. Upon arrival, we were advised that because our rate included breakfast and it was quite early, we were invited to have coffee in the Lounge. We ordered two coffees and two croissants. As we were leaving, a staff member literally ran after us on our way to the room and asked us to sign a bill for GBP 29! Although the charge was later removed, the situation was embarrassing. FYI- The croissants themselves had clearly been pre-packaged and definitely not worth such an exorbitant price. 4. While the staff were apologetic and nice, there was no offer of refunding part of our stay to make up for the ruined mornings or the hours spent trying to find another hotel and packing up all our things to move. They did offer us a room on another floor however the construction noise was pervasive throughout the entire hotel so why would anyone want to continue staying there?? In conclusion, the Athenaeum misrepresented their hotel and room situation. I wish they had been transparent about the ongoing massive 10th floor construction site DURING THE BOOKING PROCESS so travelers could make an informed decision. I guess we should be grateful that they let us leave without charging for the 3rd and 4th nights! It felt very wrong to charge full prices for a product that was severely lacking in basic levels of comfort.

Fabulous hotel , the location is amazing everything close to the hotel ,, and the best thing in the hotel the guy called Daniel ,, he us very kind and gentle,, he is very friendly

Our stay at The Athenaeum Hotel was absolutely wonderful, and what truly made it exceptional was the outstanding service. From the moment we arrived, we felt genuinely welcomed and cared for. Every member of the team was attentive, professional, and kind, but we would especially like to highlight Daniel. Daniel went above and beyond in every possible way — always warm, smiling, and incredibly helpful. His genuine kindness and dedication made our stay feel personal and unforgettable. Honestly, we would come back to the Athenaeum just for him alone. The hotel itself is elegant, comfortable, and perfectly located, but it’s the people who make the difference — and Daniel is a true gem. Thank you for making our time in London so special. We can’t wait to return.

Our stay was wonderful, the staff were very friendly and extremely helpful. We were attending awards ceremonies in nearby Park Lane so the location was great for where we were going. The doorman suggested a walk around Shepherd Market during the day whilst killing time. That was also a pleasant small excursion from the hotel within easy walking distance. We had a light lunch in the hotel restaurant. The food was delicious and the staff very attentive. The only thing that let the hotel down slightly was the mattress was a little hard for my liking. Otherwise the room was very modern, clean and comfortable and the shower was perfect.
