The pair of red brick townhouses that make up The Egerton House Hotel stands on 17th Century land that the alderman of London entrusted to slaves being held by Turkish pirates. A string of colorful characters inhabited the mansions through the decades, and remnants of history remain in each uniquely decorated room. Elaborate padded headboards, brocaded fabrics and original antiques combine to create an ambiance that is both stately and welcoming.

The Egerton is a beautiful hotel in a fantastic location, but the best part of staying there is the staff. Everyone went out of their way to make sure our schedule ran smoothly -- in London but also elsewhere in England. They recommended great restaurants near the hotel and the best ways to travel to our other destinations; they even booked train tickets for us. They gave us extra treats for our anniversary. The martinis are also as excellent as advertised. We will return!

This was my second time staying at this hotel, and once again, it exceeded my expectations. From the moment I arrived, the staff made me feel genuinely welcome and well looked after. The service is consistently attentive, friendly, and professional. The location is fantastic: convenient and peaceful. A big thank you to the entire team, especially to Sarah for making my return visit just as memorable as the first. Next time, I am planning to bring my family with me, as it’s the perfect choice for me either for leisure or business.

We went for Afternoon Tea. Afternoon Tea is served in the Drawing Room and you feel like you're in someone's Drawing Room. Cozy but elegant, fancy but not stuffy. When we visited, the Afternoon Tea was Cartier-themed so the desserts were very cleverly created. All made on site too.

Excellent location and quiet rooms with high end features, however, when one member of our party was sick and we asked for salt to gargle a tray of hot water and salt was brought to the room along with a 9 pound charge on our bill. When we have two rooms at 600 pounds a piece to charge for hot water, salt and a spot of honey and lemon seems to be penny pinching. In addition when we reported that the toilet in room 24 does not flush properly, we were told that, "yes, it's a problem as that toilet is old." Please don't bill yourself as a small luxury hotel when you know of a problem with the toilet and don't fix it. It was embarrassing to have to call maintenance on two out of our three night stays. So, in summary, those two issues tainted our view of what would otherwise be a beautiful hotel and location.

First and foremost, the staff members , Rosie, Benjamin, Jacques, were polite, efficient and could not do enough to make our experience wonderful. They housed our luggage to await our arrival, suggested restaurants that were great, ordered taxis, and got us amazing seats for the theater, all with graciousness and smiles. The hotel is a gem, situated in a wonderful neighborhood, featuring flower boxes at the front door labeled with quotes from famous writers, and surprising us at every turn with delicacies...fruit in the room, selection of confections in the lobby, and a farewell gift box of shortbread. The kind of hospitality that makes one want to return. Which we will!
