The Savoy

Stayed two nights at the Savoy to catch some theatre (including the premiere of Paddington The Musical at the Savoy Theatre downstairs - highly recommend). The Savoy Hotel lives up to the hype - the attention to detail and service was top notch. I was booked in for a Superior Queen but got upgraded to a (recently renovated) Deluxe King at check-in (lovely perk, not sure if it's because of my Accor status but I booked third party). Check-in and check-out was seamless. Everyone at the front desk, the concierge, the doormen and the porters were all attentive, friendly and efficient. I had a parcel delivered prior to my arrival and the concierge sent it up to my room minutes after my check-in without me asking. I appreciate that level of detail! Also appreciated the complimentary minibar (refilled daily), the nightly turn-down service, the slippers, tidying/folding of clothes, replenishment of toiletries and even the little bookmark they left with my book during turndown! The toiletries were lovely - Penhaligon's has an exclusive Savoy Steam fragrance and also the matching soap/lotion/shampoo which can be purchased through housekeeping but otherwise isn't publicly available. For people with mobility issues or who are easily lost, be aware that as this is a large and historic hotel, there's a few more stairs and walking than one might expect. To get to my room from the lobby required me to take two small flights of stairs, walk down a couple of corridors, then catch an elevator up to my floor and continue down a couple more corridors. Wasn't physically strenuous by any means but to get from your room to the lobby can be a 3 minute journey. Minor con: I wish the late night room service menu was more comprehensive. I'd wanted dinner after our show but wasn't compelled by anything on the limited late night menu. Still, I very much look forward to staying here again in the future!

We had a great lunch for my husband’s birthday. TheFood had plenty of flavour. The staff and restaurant were lovely very clean.

Afternoon tea with my daughter. We chose the “traditional “ at £90 sterling each. It was good but sandwiches could have been better. I did not care for the salt beef. It’s actually corned beef but was stringy and a little fatty. The sweets were nice but they did not offer to refill sandwiches or tea. We actually had to ask and then waited. It was busy but not to the point where they would have been overwhelmed. The Ritz is far better.

Staying at The Savoy has always been on my bucket list, so for a special birthday we decided to book a three-night stay and it was everything I’d ever hoped for. From start to finish, the service was absolutely impeccable. On our final night, we were surprised with an upgrade to a Junior Suite and I actually cried when I walked into the room. It was simply beautiful and everything you could wish for. Breakfast in the River Restaurant was perfect, and enjoying cocktails in the American Bar was the cherry on top. We often pop in for a drink when we’re in London, but finally getting the opportunity to stay was truly incredible. A memory I’ll cherish forever.
