A contemporary haven nestled in a historical landmark in the center of the capital of gastronomy, InterContinental® Lyon – Hotel Dieu is one of the city’s most emblematic historical landmark buildings, originally dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries and offering contemporary and understated luxury design. Views from the hotel are always stunning, be it on the Rhône river or on our listed historic courtyards. Located on the 1st floor, the hotel’s breath-taking Soufflot Dome, towering 32 metres high, has been one of the greatest private renovations of a classified site in France since 2013. The majestic Dome is the vibrant heart of the hotel, boasting a magnificent bar. Le Dôme bar is one of the highlights of the city for hotel guests and locals alike.

I was really looking forward to visiting Lyon and enjoying a bit of luxury at this hotel, but unfortunately I was very disappointed (with the hotel, not with Lyon). I booked a Premium River View room – all the photos show that this room type has a bath but sadly my room did not. Apparently if a bath was important to me I should have requested this, and I could only change rooms by paying an upgrade fee, which I declined. But this wasn't the only problem – there was mouldy sealant in the shower, the bedroom curtains were badly stained, the USB charging point next to the bed was broken/had no power, there were marks on the wall, chipped tile in the bathroom, and when I went to get a drink, there was a blonde hair in the the glass (definitely not mine!). I don't drink tea or coffee (prefer cold drinks) but apparently all the mini-bars in the hotel have been switched off so my only only option was to request a bucket of ice which was a hassle, and of course only lasts a couple of hours. There was also no option to cast to the TV, which is a given at most 5* hotels nowadays. All these are relatively minor issues but added together, it was a lot. On the plus side, the hotel is in a stunning building, in a city full of stunning buildings. In Lyon, around every corner there seems to be something else to admire. The location of the hotel is good, and its walkable to most of the main sights and shopping areas. Lyon on the whole is a very walkable place. The staff were mostly nice, and the breakfast buffet was good, with lots of choice.

I booked our stay via AMEX, and AMEX always filed a on their hotel collection recommendations. This hotel is amazing. We drove from the airport and it was easy to locate using GPS. The valet greeted us and there was no stress dropping the car with him. The ladies at check in were super friendly and helped us update our dinner reservation at Epona. The room was very large, comfortable, and spotless. It was quiet at night even being on the road side of the hotel, but I would ask for an interior room for next time. The Dôme bar is a must see…relax and grab a drink in this award winning space. The location was perfect for walking to the old town area, across the river, and we even walked all the way up the hill to the Roman sites. The Lyon Marathon was being held on Sunday so if you are looking for a perfect hotel if running the race, this is the spot! I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend this hotel.

Top rated staff: friendly and knowledgeable. Spacious room overlooking a nice courtyard. Breakfast buffet was good.

Outstanding hotel in every respect. Staff were very accommodating and kind. Our room was fantastic with a split level and huge 2 story window that overlooked the river. We had issues with our checked luggage being delayed by the airline and the hotel worked with us even after we checked out to make sure we ultimately received.

We booked a couple of nights at the hotel in addition to the night included with our Scenic River Cruise. We found this to be a great hotel, on par with our Scenic accommodations in Paris (Hotel Edouard 7) and Zurich (Hotel Schweizerhof). The building is very impressive overall, and the room was clean and spacious and modern. The room was very quiet at night. The restaurants, including the Dome, were excellent. All in all, a wonderful place to stay.
