Due to a schedule change (ours, not theirs), we spent one night in a standard room and the rest in a junior suite, which was the room we originally booked. I am going to give my opinion of both. I rated this 5 stars but the two rooms were very different experiences even though they were only a few rooms away from each other. If I was in the standard room the whole time, the rating would be lower. Overall, I thought the hotel was excellent. The customer service was friendly and attentive the whole time. We did not have a single problem. Both rooms were immaculately clean. The whole place has old world charm - some people would call it stuffy but I love that sort of thing. And for no reason whatsoever ever, there is a small archaeology museum in the building. The rooms and hallways are decorated with real Roman mosaics. The location is good - across from the legislature it is a mix of business and tourism. It is between Las Letras and Retiro so it’s a bit quieter than the main tourist neighborhoods but still lots of bars, shops, etc in walking distance. Cabs line up at the front which was an added convenience. The windows are heavy and keep out most of the weekend street noise. The standard room was small, barely room for a bed and a chair. The shower had one of those half doors which meant that water got everywhere. It was serviceable for a night or two but I would have got frustrated with the lack of space quickly. I am not sure where we would have even put both our suitcases. It was also noisy. The doors are loud and we could hear all the slamming in the hallway and someone packing in the room next door. One plus - the view was great. The suite was the opposite. It was spacious and comfortable. It has a separate small bedroom and sitting room and a balcony with a table and chairs. The bathroom had a large soaking tub and shower. Because the bedroom was away from the door we were insulated from the hall noise. It was a great base for tourism with lots of comfortable space to chill out when we got tired. A few negatives - the beds are harder than I’d like. In the bedroom and only the bedroom I kept hearing machinery all night long. I have no idea where it was coming from but I am a light sleeper so it bothered me. The walls are on the thin side and you can hear a lot of noise from other rooms - something mitigated by the suite bed location but it would have been an issue in a regular room. Accessibility notes In the photos on the hotel website all the rooms had stairs, many precariously close to the bed. We almost didn’t book here because of it and ultimately chose the suite because the stairs were in a different location. Neither our standard room or suite had any stairs! So it’s worth noting there are room with no stairs. However, there are other potential challenges for people with mobility issues. There is a staircase leading up to the elevators, which themselves are tiny. Our suite tub was difficult to get in an out of. Someone using a wheelchair or walker should think carefully about staying here and ask a lot of questions. On the whole, we had a great stay and definitely would go back.

Enjoyed a 6-day stay in mid-May. Hotel is perfect location for visiting museums and wandering neighborhoods. Hotel restaurant has excellent food and service. Room was very comfortable and clean. Good value overall.

We travel extensively and usually stay in a 4 start or a 5 star properties. This hotel stands out in service level and I can say with confidence that I have never seen this level of service in over 200 hotels we have stayed till date in North America, Europe, Asia and other continents. The reason this hotel stands out is because this hotel staff goes above and beyond and genuinely serve customers from their heart. I work in a financial industry and travel for business/ vacation and curious to know how this hotel staff is trained and kept motivated. Great location, breakfast is amazing and staff serving the food is really good and takes care of their guests, check in was efficient and very polite staff everywhere. There is nothing which I can say negative or improvement required as everything was perfect. I will highly recommend and will try their hotel and other properties for future travel.

The Villa Real is a genuinely beautiful hotel in what might be the best location in Madrid — right in the Huertas neighborhood, steps from the Prado, surrounded by restaurants, bars, cafés, shops, and more sights than you can reasonably tackle in one trip. Location? Zero complaints. Absolutely no second-guessing that choice. The staff at the front desk were outstanding — warm, courteous, genuinely helpful, and the kind of people who make you feel like you made the right call the moment you walk in. The hotel itself is a beautiful building and impeccably clean throughout. The bar deserves a special mention. Our bartender was an absolute delight — the kind of person who makes you feel like a regular on your first night. The brandy was excellent, and their liquid cheesecake was something I’m still thinking about. Highly recommend ending your evening there. We also had a nice balcony off the room with rooftop views — which, if you’ve spent any time in Spain, you know is always a win. Now, the thing I can’t overlook: we booked a junior suite. I’ve stayed in junior suites before. This was… not what I’d call a junior suite. Tiny sitting room, small bedroom, and a bed that — while comfortable — is simply not a two-adult bed. Two people of average size sharing it is a contact sport. We spent the night trading elbows. The bathroom was gorgeous and well-stocked with plush towels and great amenities, but you spend more than a few hours in that bed, and it matters. For a solo traveler, this place would be a near-perfect stay. For two people, I’d strongly recommend asking very pointed questions about the actual bed size before booking. Unfortunately, that’s enough of a dealbreaker that I wouldn’t return as a couple — which genuinely stings to say, because almost everything else here is excellent.

Perfectly located and beautifully maintained, but the two things that stand out most at Hotel Villa Real are the staff and the art. The team here provides true 5-star service, efficient and kind. The hotel itself is like a boutique museum; we were amazed by the collection of ancient mosaics and ceramics displayed in the public spaces. It makes for a very unique atmosphere that you won't find in a standard luxury chain. Highly recommend for anyone who values top-tier hospitality and culture.
