Reviews for The Principal Madrid Hotel
Amazing first stay in Madrid
First time in Madrid as we used this airport as our EU gateway from Chicago. Arrived mid-day on a Saturday and reception could not have been more lovely and accommodating starting with Cava in the beautiful lounge. Note there is outdoor terrace(s) access on the reception floor as well as a rooftop with beautiful views of Madrid. Location on the Gran Via walkable to most historic center and the Prado and Thiessen art museums just a nice broad tree canopied stroll away. Chueca neighborhood and all it has to offer just outside the door as well and Salamanca walkable as well. Excellent breakfast and dinner (inside or outside) if you so choose. Hospitality and recs for nearby attractions, shopping and eats excellent (special thanks to front desk staff and Arturo!) . Accommodations updated and very comfortable. Our room on Gran Via side very quiet at night. Highly recommend as base for any visit to Madrid! Mucho gracias Le Principal! We'll be back!

Super vacation

Ideal hotel
The hotel’s beautiful rooms, views, location and thoughtful amenities were exceptional, but what brought it to life the most was the excellent staff.

Not worth the price.
I am surprised and, I admit, annoyed that this hotel has such consistently excellent reviews. Our stay was deeply disappointing. It's true the location is excellent. Other than that, this hotel pretends to be a "luxury" hotel but it's really not. The room was tiny, and the whole place had an overwhelming, disinfectant scent. (I think they were trying for a "signature scent" and just got it very wrong.) The so-called "concierge" was just an unmotivated front desk staffer. Hotel staff refused to help us when we left an item at a museum. If I had payed $300 a night, I'd be satisfied. The problem is, I payed $500+. Not worth it.

The Principal Rank: 3 StarMatch: Below. Location: Very well located in Madrid but on a busy street. There is nothing wrong with the hotel but it does not match it's image on its homepage or reviews ie: it is not a really amazing boutique hotel.
