Urso Hotel & Spa, Madrid

This is a lovely hotel with a great included breakfast. The staff are knowledgeable and helpful. The only issue is the beds which are hard as the cement pavement. I like a firm bed. However, these beds have absolutely no give to them at all. We both woke with sore backs daily. Other than that, out stay was good.

Comfortable rooms. A double with a roll-away worked well for 3 adults. Well-located. Service was great all around. High-quality dining, including a great breakfast. Only drawback was the fitness center, which was too small.

Beautiful hotel set in a great location. We had the most basic room which was well appointed and a good size for our 2 night stay, although the shower leaked all over the floor. Wasn't an issue for us but may be for other people. The staff were very helpful and polite, especially the concierge. The public areas of the hotel are well appointed and decorated. Although we generally enjoyed our stay one little niggle we had was that after a long day walking about in the hot sun we thought we'd take advantage of the pool to cool off. The pool is in the basement behind locked glass doors. We got changed and ready to swim and then were told the room we were in (nearly £500 per night) did not qualify to allow us to swim! Not sufficiently expensive. We challenged this and were told it was in the Terms and Conditions. We have stayed in some of the world's best hotels and have never come across this before. Why then, would we even think for one second that using the hotel pool would come at a price? It never even occurred to us. Certainly we would never have checked the T&C's as we never knew charging for an upscale hotel's pool was a 'thing'. Anyway, despite this we had a lovely time. Madrid is beautiful. Just thought people should know and be aware.

We can not rave about this hotel enough! Everyone from the front door to the turndown service was professional and determined to do whatever was needed to make us happy. Our 1st time visit to Madrid was enhanced daily knowing that we would unwind with cocktails and a light bite, served by Pedro, while enjoying live piano music. Any food we tried was delicious. Pedro had tips on things to see, places to eat, and always was curious about our day. It was like staying with friends. When we return to Madrid we will definitely stay at the Urso.

I stayed at Hotel Urso for a few days while visiting Madrid, and overall, it’s a solid option especially thanks to its excellent location, ideal for a three-day stay or longer in the city. The rooms are tastefully designed, functional, and fairly spacious. However, I strongly recommend requesting a room on a higher floor and away from the breakfast area. The rooms on the first floor open directly onto the breakfast restaurant, which compromises privacy and tranquility. While the front desk staff were very friendly, I was disappointed by their lack of attention to the details of my SLH reservation. There was no mention of my booking status, nor any acknowledgment of my SLH member tier, something I’ve always experienced at other SLH properties. Initially, I was assigned a first-floor room sold as a "palace view," but in reality, the view was of a wall and a garage entrance. After raising the issue, they moved me to the third floor, where I finally got the proper palace view. Breakfast was good in terms of quality, but service felt disorganized and lacked the precision expected at this level. Additionally, the welcome drinks offered on Saturday evening were a letdown, the staff was clearly overwhelmed, and waiting a long time just to be served a glass of wine and a tapa hardly felt welcoming. In summary, Hotel Urso is a stylish and well-positioned hotel with potential for a great stay—provided you are proactive about your room and don't expect flawless service. With more attention to detail, especially for loyal SLH guests, the experience could be significantly improved.
