About the Hotel

Amanjiwo, enveloped by the rainforest of central Java, is set within a natural amphitheater – where the Menoreh Hills rise up nearby and the farmlands of the Kedu Plain spread below steep volcanoes on the horizon. Overlooking the world's largest Buddhist monument, Borobudur, this majestic 9th century UNESCO World Heritage site is perfect for personal reflection. Set in two graceful crescents, the 36 Suites feature sunken bathtubs and thatched-roof bale pavilions, and open onto private gardens. The Spa, with its outdoor relaxation bale, is home to treatments informed by Javanese healing and beauty rituals handed down through generations. Tennis courts overlook the Menoreh Hills, and yoga is practised both at the gym and outdoors. The 40-metre swimming pool, surrounded by loungers and parasols, offers respite amid rice paddies and banyan trees.

Very nice hotel worth the price. Stay here for a night. Really zen mode. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The pool was warm even in the night. Breakfast was nice. But they didnt have coffee. The staff always clean our room every time we go out. Really enjoyable room.

Spectacular & memorable

This is our 2nd Aman stay. Beautiful resort designed by Ed Tuttle, brings you back in time to a quiet and secluded environment. Architecture highlights and recalls the inspiration of nearby Borobodur. We had an amazing pool suite where we relaxed in between excursions. My partner's birthday dinner was arranged beautifully at Pak Bilal house. Staff were experienced and very helpful with most details of our itinerary arrangements. Special mention to Room Division Manager Mr Didin Styawan who was wonderful and ensured we had a wonderful time!

Fantastic hotel!

Amanjiwo is a most beautiful and serene place where your every need or desire is anticipated and fulfilled This was our first stay at an Aman hotel. We wanted to stay close to Borobudur, and not only is it located close by, but we had a view of the temple from our pool villa, which was exquisite. No need to wake up before dawn to view the sunrise over the temple! We arrived for our four night stay after 30 hours of travel, and were warmly welcomed and showered with rose petals. The main hotel building is stunning in its symmetry - covered in sandstone tile and perfectly framing Borobudur Temple in the distance. There are only 35 rooms and each is a separate walled structure. The main 40M pool is beautifully sited, with mountain views and lovely landscaping. As a swimmer, I particularly enjoyed swimming laps in this gorgeous pool. Yoga is offered in the morning, and I had a lovely private class with Augustin, as I was the only guest to show up. Food was excellent. We had dinner delivered to our villa or ate at the gorgeous open air restaurant each night. Both linch and dinner featured a small gamelan ensemble playing softly. Breakfasts were delicious with many choices of fresh juices, local fruits, and both Western and Indonesian foods. Staff were beyond wonderful - friendly but unobtrusive. In particular I would like to mention April & Rafi at reception, Suna (26 yrs there) and Nuke at the restaurant. I had two identical 1 1/2hr massage treatments with Riski (Kiki) who was wonderful. I cannot say enough about this beautiful hotel and staff. Truly a great hotel experience. It is indeed a very special place.

Hotel with a view of Borobudur

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 6 months ago

An amazing hotel that is built with a view of the distant Borobudur temple and sympathetic to the temple buildings, but with all the modern amenities at your disposal. We were in the Borobudur suite which was beautifully designed and well equipped. One gets met at the airport and the 90 minute drive to the hotel was in an air conditioned wifi connected and well stocked car, through an interesting route with an informative driver. A breath taking view driving into the hotel. Met by management staff and we were given an excellent tour of the common areas and our suite, as well as the tours available to be booked. The massages in the spa were relaxing especially after a busy day touring in the sun. Hospitality and service par excellence.

Laidback and enjoyable

This review has been long overdue. But it is still something to write home about. We booked 2 garden pool suites for 3 nights and they were amazing. The hotel itself is simply breathtaking. The design, ambience and the feel about the place is really unique, traditional but yet still classy. The pool and its surrounding foliage is really stunning. You really feel like you are in your own sanctuary. The room was good, with some basic necessities provided. Although i have to say the property showed its age, it was still one of the best in the area. The food and breakfast was awesome. The staff were all really friendly and helpful. We did a lot of activities from Andong, Village visit, Borobudur visit, bicycle tour, batik making, Pak Bilal dinner and river picnic. I have to say the Pak Bilal dinner was the highlight of the trip. They are A MUST DO ACTIVITY at the property. However, my daughter were bitten by some kind of bugs that left her skin irritated and itchy during the picnic. The staff were attentive and provided the necessary medicine and they even checked out on her a couple of days after we checked out. All in all, do yourself a favour, and when visiting Borobudur, stay here. You too will be impressed, dazed and amazed.
