Hyatt Regency Mainz captivates architecturally, with the symbiosis of contemporary design and historic charm of the integrated Fort Malakoff. Located along the Rhine River, near Mainz Old Town, the hotel is an ideal starting point for both business and leisure travelers. The metropolis of Frankfurt and many cultural and recreational areas of the Rhine-Main area are within reach of our city hotel in Mainz.

We recently returned to this hotel for a 3 night stay before a Rhine river cruise. The hotel is about a half hour drive from Frankfurt and is located at the convergence of the Rhine and Main rivers. We went out of our way to stay here even though our cruise departed from Frankfurt. Sitting on the banks of the Rhine, the views from the hotel are wonderful and you can watch the barge traffic going up and down the 2 rivers at all hours. We always stay in a club level room (this time was #639) as these have floor to ceiling opening windows - the premium club rooms are the best as they are at the end of the hotel and offer larger rooms with the best views and opening doors. Included with the club rooms is breakfast in the Bellpepper restaurant which offer a very nice variety of items as well as letting you order off of a menu (we tried omelets one morning). Also, there is an evening happy hour at the club lounge with a nice selection of wines and snacks. Close by there is a sushi restaurant at the end of the block and the central square with the cathedral and shops is about a 15 minute walk. It is also a 15 minute walk to the Mainz central train station where we departed for a day trip to Koblenz. As we were not in town for business, we did not care to be in central Frankfurt, but did rent a car in Mainz for a drive to Heidelberg Castle and Auerbach Fortress. The rooms are well appointed and spacious and the staff are always willing to assist- our windows did not open and the desk staff was quick to arrive with a special key to solve the problem. There is a very nice full length heated lap pool as well as a full service spa. While we did not visit the spa, the pool was a welcome site after a long international flight. We cannot recommend this hotel enough and will always return when we visit Germany!

I stayed here for 7 days and from the moment I arrived at the Hyatt Regency Mainz, I was greeted with a level of professionalism and warmth that set the tone for an unforgettable stay. The check-in process was seamless, and the staff went out of their way to make me feel welcome. Aida from the housekeeping staff was so attentive and caring and Stella and the other ladies and gentlemen from the breakfast area also made my stay amazing. The front desk staff are extremely helpful and friendly. The hotel itself is modern and very comfortable. It is located by the Rhine river and it is easy to walk into the old town on foot. There is also a grocery store around the corner if you need to stock up on food items. They offer a couple of water bottles every day as part of the stay. The temperature controls worked beautifully and the water pressure in the shower was excellent. The room was of average size but had slippers and bathrobes. I highly recommend this hotel to everyone and would welcome the opportunity to stay there again.

I should be able to give this hotel a 5, but I dropped it to a 3 so that Hyatt management will take notice and invest in updating the rooms and making repairs. We had two river view executive level rooms. The beds were comfortable but the pillows too hard. They brought others but they were foam and of lower quality. My biggest complaint is the terrible design of the bathroom and the musty mildew smell in the bathroom. You basically shower on the floor into a drain. The grout is old. The chair in the room looked old and in need of steam cleaning or a replacement. The rug also looks old. There was a leak into the lobby from the ceiling above with buckets collecting water. The lounge was very nice with good food and service. The rest was just not up to what one would expect at this gorgeous location and from the Hyatt name.

Check-in was brilliant an individual with a clear understanding who quickly managed everything. The horror began in the room which reeked of sewage, the air-conditioning would not turn off. A member of staff arrived and attempted to "fix" the problem by spraying the entire room with a bathroom cleaner, including the contents of my suitcase. We then moved to another room ( same floor) which also benefited from a broken safe and grubby poorly cleaned carpets, the only good thing was that it was slightly less smelly... In the morning we saw the same smelly room being offered to a flight attendant who had just landed, not sure how they resolved the problem overnight but I suspect they hadn't. What was supposed to be a rest between flights turned out to be way more complex than anticipated and far from restful. It's sad to see such potential in a hotel being lost.

I’ve stayed at the Hyatt Regency Mainz multiple times, and each visit leaves me increasingly disappointed. At this point, I’m honestly questioning why I keep returning. Habit, perhaps but that ends now. I said the same on my last visit but my experience today just reminds me of how correct my judgement is. This hotel is a shadow of what a Hyatt should be. The rooms are dated, tired, and in serious need of renovation. Basic amenities like air conditioning, critical for any hotel stay simply do not work. The units are noisy, ineffective, and leave the rooms uncomfortably hot during the day. For a so-called premium property, that’s unacceptable. Read some of the reviews on here and you will notice this reoccurring theme. The AIRON does not work and it is impossible to sleep. I paid extra for a “river view” room, only to be met with a view of a building wall. Misleading at best, borderline dishonest at worst. Check the photos before you book. While the location on the Rhine is excellent and the public areas look polished, it’s all surface-level gloss. Once you’re past the lobby, the experience rapidly declines. Staff are polite but uninspired, hospitality seems more procedural than genuine, I would go as far to say this must be a training property because they know little about genuine hospitality. Mainz is a beautiful city, and it deserves better. I’ll be breaking my routine and taking my business elsewhere on future visits. This property no longer meets the standard or the price tag of the Hyatt name. If you like sleeping in a sauna and like paying a premium for a river view room to stare at a wall then go ahead and stay here.
