The Westin almost ruined the start of our honeymoon

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

**Summary:** The Westin is unprofessional, inhospitable, and indifferent to its customers. It ruined the start of our honeymoon, but thankfully, the Fairmont saved us that evening. It is not the Hawaii experience you have saved up your precious money for. **Background:** I booked a 2-night non-refundable stay for $1300 for the start of our honeymoon. My wife had a medical episode that delayed our trip by a day. We called the day we were supposed to check in to inform the Westin of our delay and asked to move our reservation out a day. The hotel was unwilling to adjust the reservation or offer a refund. We understood the terms and were prepared to stay for the remaining night. The hotel assured us our room would be ready upon arrival. **Issue #1:** When we arrived on day 2, the front desk said they needed to check with their manager. After a 20-minute wait, the manager informed us that since we didn't check in on the original day, our reservation was canceled. We would need to rebook to stay, requiring another $650. **Issue #2:** We informed the manager we had called the day before and were told our room would be held. The manager took our number, assured us they'd resolve the issue, and told us to enjoy the resort while waiting for their call. They never contacted us, not even to say there was nothing they could do. They simply ignored us, treating us as if we didn’t matter. **Rating:** 0 stars for management; it was one of the worst experiences I've ever had. 3 stars for the hotel; we didn’t get a room and didn’t see the whole resort, but it was overcrowded and looked mediocre. It’s not the fairytale you envision for Hawaii. For a bit more per night, you can have a special experience at a hotel that truly practices hospitality. **Happy Ending:** We traveled 50 minutes south to the Fairmont Kea Lani, where I had stayed many years ago. They saved the day. After hearing about our experience at the Westin, they upgraded our room, gave us complimentary drinks, and made my wife feel valued. She got emotional with happiness. Thank you, Fairmont Kea Lani! **Westin Ka’anapali:** If your management reads this, know that people save up for years for their special celebrations to stay at your hotel. Do better.

Room views not accurate. Front desk and management ustomer Service horrible, loud kids everywhere.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

Beautiful pools, but kids everywhere. All the time. Hear constant yelling in my room right now. Asked for a Manager to call three separate times. Waited over a half hour twice in person and no one cares or will call you back. Trying to schedule a meeting with the general manager. Haven't heard a thing. Still after 2 days. Never seen such poorly trained front desk staff, yet at a Westin. This is no Westin. Here is their "ocean view" room. See it? Nope me either. Not worth your time or money. Worst Marriott property I have been at. They don't care if vacation club owner or titanium bonvoy. Go anywhere else. We see why it is rated so low after we got here. Will tell everyone to not waste their time or money here.

A Warm Welcome Back

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

We have been owners since before this resort was built; buying in 2002. We have two weeks at the South property and one week at the North. We come frequently and it is our home-away-from-home! Every aspect of our stay here was above and beyond. We respectfully canceled our trip for Oct of '23, only to very much look forward to returning. We were more than thrilled to return and we must say, we were greeted and genuinely welcomed back by every staff member we came across. Half of our family stayed at the South, the other half at the North. Service was prompt, calls were answered or returned immediately and the resort was well-maintained and kept looking spiffy. Without going on and on, the purpose of this review is to give credit where credit is due... Many of the staff members deserve an extra shout-out for their friendly and loving service: Xavier at the Front Desk, Keanu at South Valet, Nick the Bartender at Auntie's, Shielo my breakfast server at Auntie's and Salome at the Front Desk. My only regret is that I did my best to gather all the names but undoubtedly missed many names. I want to say to all the employees: you made our vacation. We didn't even leave the resort and why do we need to? Everything is right there. All twelve of our family members can only imagine the hardship that everyone has gone through. A big mahalo nui loa to everyone for being kind, welcoming and for working so hard. We are grateful...

Swim diapers

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Been staying here for a very long time with my family. Recently had a child and my wife called to see what amenities offered for kids. We were told swim diapers were available and no need to pack them. Well when we got here it doesn’t seem to be the case. Spoke with 5 people now and no one seems to know about them or where to get them. We did speak to someone yesterday at the concierge and they didn’t know about them but she tried to find out. She confirmed they did have them but they don’t hand them out past a certain time. We were told to just go to the huts by the pool in the morning. Tried that and they still said they didn’t have those. Went back to the concierge and the two gentlemen there didn’t know what a swim diaper was. They didn’t seem like they wanted to help or solve the problem. It’s not the biggest deal in the world, but I have swim diapers at home and would have just packed them if we were told they didn’t have them. Now I have to get into a car and drive to the store and buy some, and my kid can’t get in the water until them. Pretty disappointed how unorganized the staff is.

Marriott doesn't care about its most valuable customers

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

The Wetin vacation club is a terrible operation. I had to cancel due to Covid and couldn't reschedule due to family illness--nw they won't let me have my $698 deposit back nor will they let me reschedule. As a loyal Marriott Bonvoy member, I'm shocked at how little they seem to care about their most valuable customers--losing my loyalty for the price of a $698 refund or credit.
