W Mexico City

The hotel is beautiful, but unfortunately, there is nothing behind the façade. It’s like a gorgeous face until they open their mouths — all looks, no depth. Service is inefficient, responses are poor, and the basics you would expect from a hotel of this category simply don’t work. It may be fine if you don’t care whether your room is cleaned on time or whether the amenities actually function, but for those who value service and reliability, this hotel falls short. Do better. Be better. We had high expectations and they were dashed, we do not recommend this hotel because in fairness nobody really seems to care so we don’t care to return.

Last week we stayed at the W Hotel for work, and the experience was mixed. The hotel feels quite old. The breakfast was tasty, but the coffee was disappointing. The staff seemed a bit distant, except for Arturo at the door, who was very friendly and always smiling, and Eduardo at the bar, who makes amazing margaritas. I really enjoyed his talk about Mexican wines and learned a lot. The taco event, however, was a bit bland. It’s a good hotel overall, but it doesn’t quite capture the true W experience.

We stayed a week in W in Mexico City for work and expo. The hotel is in a great location in Polanco. The suite was very nice with great views everywhere!!! We had windows in the shower in the toilet, everywhere we had windows no joke!! The breakfast was great!! Friendly service. Very nice hotel.

I’ve stayed at the W Mexico City a few times, and while my visit last year left me feeling like the signature W vibe was fading at this location, this year’s stay was a completely different story—in the best possible way. The energy is back, and the improvements are unmistakable. The renovated spa is fantastic, and Cesandari, the spa manager, made sure the experience was top-notch. There’s also an exciting new speakeasy tucked away in the penthouse that adds an extra layer of cool to the property. The Insider team, led by the incredible María José, went above and beyond—especially when helping me track down W Mexico City merchandise for my son’s collection, and the amazing welcome package. Luis at the concierge desk was spot on with his recommendations. I also had the pleasure of chatting with Rainer, the General Manager. It’s clear he’s the driving force behind the upgraded experience across the board. His leadership shows in every detail. Unlike last time, I left this visit already thinking about when I’ll return. W Mexico City is back—and better. Hope to see you soon.

Let me start positive. The area is a nice upscale “business” neighborhood. The other positive was breakfast - satisfying election of fresh yogurts, fruit, breads, made to order dishes and very prompt service. That’s sort of where it ends. The rooms are just bad. You start with these incredibly cheap looking hallways that are set up like a maze. The furniture is just budget feel and clunky, nothing upscale feeling or “finessed” about any of it, right down to the doors of the shower and toilet. But the design…who would think to put the bathroom area against the window, so you are left with little sunlight…truly bizarre. The sinks are stuck to a spray setting (who wanted that?) and the water in both there and the shower took too long to warm up each time. Rainforest shower head was terrible. Only one usable plug point near the bed unless you unplugged things. The air-conditioning? Had no idea what to do with it. If would run for a few minutes then stop. We had to set it to a very low temperature to run more than a few minutes so the room wouldn’t get stuffy. Honestly, a lot of this should have been elementary for this brand.
